Oil Leak
Hi folks,
While at Thunderhill I started leaking oil from the front of the engine. A gent at the track said it looks like the Front cover gasket. The engine is a re-build from Mazda. I called a shop today and they are saying 13hrs to repair. Do You guys have any ideas about this.
If I have the work done any thoughts on what eles I should take care of while we're in there?

That's pretty typical for the amount of time of that type of repair (if it is the front cover). Most people just wait a little while and get a rebuild since the cost of the front cover gasket repair is typically half the cost of a rebuild.
If you have some local help, tools and a place to work you could probably do the job over 2 or 3 days yourself. I think the gasket is around $20. The rest is all labor you are paying.

Thanks for the reply. That's what I was wondering about. The rebuild issue. I can't wait though. I like to take the car to the track and don't want to leave a trail of oil behind me
I'll need to get the manual and check out the procedure. Know where I can get a good book?
Thanks again!

Dunno if this CD is any good. But ran across it and remembered your post. http://www.importmodifications.com/mazdarx7.html
It might have the instructions you are looking for...I dunno. I like to use Chiltons but they didnt make one for the FD gen as far as I know. The only car it seems like they didnt make one for. If you wind up getting the CD lemme know if it turns out to be any good.

I saw those CDs on Ebay and was wondering if they were worth the cash myself. I'll let ya know if I check 'em out.
