New owner of an rx7.need help pls

Ok i would like to start off by saying this webpage has been a big help already and id like to thank to owners and participants. Now to my problem. My 1993 rx-7 has an engine coolant leak when the engine has been turned on for about 20 minutes and starts overheating. Also it has an oil leak coming from what looks like the oil pan. I know this seems like pretty basic stuff but i wanted to get a few peoples opinions on where i should start and what possibilities it could be. I have the repair manual and from the list of possibilities it has, i could be spending dozens of hours testing the components. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Feel free to email me at jf297301@ohiou.edu or post a message here. Thanks

i have the same type of oil leak, i think it might be my turbos. not sure yet. im taking my turbos off today anyways. the coolant leak might be your hoses. make sure they are tight. look for faint bubbling around the ends of the hoses. it took me for ever to find this. i was freaking out. do you have the stock ast? that may be a problem.

How is your engine overheating? Is the temp gauge going to hot? If so, that is hella bad. If the needle starts going over the middle mark, cut the engine off immediately.
My suggestion is to take off the undertray, and see where the coolant is leaking.
Many oil leaks drain down onto the oil pan and look like they're coming from it, but may not be.

Regarding the oil leak; I have the same problem with oil leakage - I'm taking the engine apart one by one and have yet to isolate were the leak is coming from. I guess find the highest spot on the engine with oil residue. If in fact the oil is leaking through the oil pan, there should not be any oil residue on components that are in higher elevation.
Regarding the coolant issue: I'm assuming that you have a sufficient amount of coolant in your system (at least initially) and that you know for a fact that it's leaking. It could be a number of things such as water pump problems or leakage, event thermostat failure or simply check the hoses. Also don't over look the fans - see if they are running and if they are in fact sucking the air through the radiator. The previous owner of my car wired the fans incorrectly and they were if fact running in the wrong direction causing the engine to overheat. Good luck.

Are you sure that you are losing coolant? If the coolant level sensor is bad it will make the needle rise. Also if the coolant is not burped correctly the needle will rise. Sometimes after adding coolant you have to reset the ECU to get it to not read as overheating. This is done by turning the key on/off 3 times with the brake depressed.
Maybe one of those will correct it . Thats what it sounds like to me.
Oil leaks need to be located and tightened up is all. Degrease it and track down the leak. Thats fairly straightforward.

What happened was: i started the car and after about 20 minutes of letting it run, engine coolant started coming out of the bottom either from the container or a hose coming out of it b/c the coolant dripped down the side and off the bottom. When i went to see where the leak was coming from the engine shut itself off and i looked at the temp gauge inside and it was barely a hair under the halfway mark. Would the water pump, thermosensor, thermoswitch, or air intake sensor cause it to over heat? The leak is from plastic expanding when it got to hot im pretty sure about and just need to replace the part. Any info would help. Thanks
