Oil Filler Flange Problem

I have problems getting my oil filler flange to stay seated in the middle iron.

I am talking about the short steel tube with flange that presses into the iron, not the cheeesy plastic neck that bolts to it.

Somehow it always works its way loose. Ive tried reworking the "lip" on it and hammering it in to place - works for a while but still comes loose.

Ive tried superglue and Ive tried JB Weld. Didn't expect either of those repairs to work long, and they didn't.

Ive never seen this part loose on other engines or heard of it coming apart. Its usually happily stuck in the iron and stays there.

SO, I guess I need to pull this part from another iron and replace the one I have? Can I get just this part new?

What is proper way to seat it so it stays put?

^^^ You know, Ive tried that. The vibration breaks it loose eventually and the neck ends up all wonky.

Don't want to get too much RTV on it so that it flakes off and gets stuck on the pickup screen.

Turns out that the thing is held on by some kind of mechanical method that defies me, not glue or RTV.

You could find longer bolts and put lock nuts on the bottom side.

Someone must have taken it out before and either sanded the hole in the iron or cleaned up the neck too much with sandpaper. Typically I "hammer them" in after lapping irons. The only things you can try are a high temp GEL epoxy or you'll have to order a new piece. Even if you order a new piece someone could have prepped the bore too much still making it loose.

Try the gel epoxy; don't try a hard epoxy it will just crack. The best way to prep the surface of the neck is via media blasting. Spray everything else with brake parts cleaner.

Don't know if it's possible since the neck is stamped steel and the center iron is, well, iron, but it could maybe be spot welded.

It is originally a press fit, and after a few installs/removals that tolerance will wear down. For it to be press fit again, it would probably have to have the steel neck expanded slightly to get the tolerance correct and be installed with a proper press, not a hammer.

Its in the car so I don't think a press is an option.

I have the accessory bracket and powersteering pump out now for repairs so the access I have now to the flange is about as good as its going to get - considering its still in the car.

I'm thinking of trying to use a flange from a spare iron, brake cleaner, some kind of adhesive, and some good solid square whacks.

Its funny that this flange doesn't like to stay in this particular iron. I can't even figure out how to get one out of my spare iron - its set in there GOOD!
