Exclamation Oil everywhere after a hard run!

After a hard run (redlining), I drive really easy for the last 5 mins... then come to a stop. Then my friend and I notice a smell, then we notice smoke coming from the passenger side. We pop open the hood, to reveal oil on the Y-pipe, oil filter, spark plug wires, dipstick, etc... but none on the upper intake or anything. Well, I then check to see the oil level after I shut down the car... and the oil seems to be full. Also, there seems to be no oil dripping anywhere. This is kinda scary, seeing as how my motor/turbos was just rebuilt recently... does anyone have any insight?

Check the two lines going to the oil filler neck.If the one is off that goes to the UIM oil will go into the intake, possibly out your BOV? and mayby out the disconnected line towards your spark plugs?

It could be the rubber coupler between the stock y-pipe and the crossover pipe.

It could be the oil filler pipe's rubber o-ring--it might not be seated properly between the filler neck pipe and the motor. This is very tricky to reseat, and if the technician was in a rush, it's quite possible the filler neck was not installed properly. It's a PITA to get to the filler neck pipe. Hopefully you won't have to replace the o-ring. I'd have one on-hand just in case you do (just b/c it's such a PITA to tear everything down again to get to the oil filler pipe!).

It could be a that someone forgot to install the rubber throttle body elbow gasket.

The throttle body elbow gasket? I don't remember seeing one! Damn! Well, should I order one or should I just make one out of RTV?

If you don't have a rubber elbow-to-throttle body gasket, then you'll have oil spray, under high boost conditions. What's an RTV?

It started smoking again, out of the passenger side.

It's basically a gasket making compound of sorts, it comes in a tube. Hrm, what is that 1/2"ID rubber hose on top of the Y-pipe? I saw some oil leak out of there...maybe my hose clamps are going.

Check your compression too.

Combustion gases seeping past seals can push oil out of the dipstick. While it's nothing to start freaking out about yet, i'd check it now.

I have oil going into my intake and notice a lot of blue/white smoke during warm up. I noticed there is a hose coming off the filler neck not connected to anything. Where is this supposed to go? Does anyone have a diagram for it. I have been losing about 1 quart of oil every two weeks but its not leaking onto the ground. I always assumed that my turbos were leaking. Can someone explain how oil will leak into the intake if this hose on the filler neck is not plugged into the uim.

I also have never noticed a gasket between the throttle body and intake elbow. Although I have never noticed an oil leak there or boost leak, I guess I should pick one up at the dealer also.

This is an RX-7, not a Hyundai. Buy the gasket.

About 4 month's ago, I replace the TCS and bought both compression tube to TB O-Ring , which I used, AND the TB to UIM gasket, which I didn't use. It's a $17.00 gasket. It's just sitting in the garage in the original Mazda package. If you need it, I'll let it go for 10 bucks shipped to your door. Let me know with a PM. Thanks.

...turns out, the intake elbow does have a gasket... I just never noticed it since it's somewhat embedded into the intake elbow. The problem went away -- lets hope it stays that way.

do this.

Remove your oil filler cap, and go drive for about 15 minutes. Try boosting and see what happens. Possibly your oil chamber is getting pressurized. I was having this problem w/ my car, I'd capped off a breather valve that ran from the oil filler neck to the UIM and it was building up pressure, thus, after I had boosted, there was still pressure inside the chamber, this caused the pressure to force excess oil into the turbos causing them to burn it up it and smoke like a bitch. I also had oil spattered everywhere because of this.

Cap removed and wala, no more smoking, no more leaking.
