Oil in Air Filter

I changed my air filter today and there was a small amount that had collected towards one of the four sides of the paper filter element. Is this normal or do I have a problem? My car is a 1993 with 18,000 original miles. Filter was definitely not soaked or anything like that.

Thanks,
Drew

What kind of filter is it? My k&n filter left a tiny amount of oil residue in my turbo inlet pipe. I think it's because they come oiled from the factory.

Not sure the brand because the previous owner installed it, but it is a drop in paper filter not a K&N or anything fancy like that.

Interesting.
You really can only get oil in there from a few sources such as your air pump, charge relief valve and air bypass valve..

It's more than likely the pre-oil on the filter. The only other source could be an oil leak near by getting "sucked" in.

Paper filters arent usually 'pre-oiled'. Thats more a K&N thing.

If the paper filter is a lighter color, and dark engine oil is collecting on it, its come from the engine somewhere most likely

Have you looked at your charge relief valve or air bypass valve inlet hoses that lead to the air box? Honestly if it's not coming out from one of those, I wouldn't worry about it.
