CA OEM Twin Turbos Junk or Reusable?

Did check for shaft play, there was some small radial side to side but no axial play. There is an attached video but maybe the quality is not that good.

Not too sure which one is the primary or secondary, I believe the secondary turbo is the side with the actuator mounting holes? Looks like heavy carbon build up on that side?

This car sat for a long time so the coolant channels have a bunch of gunk and goo in them, and there is the classic surface rust on it outside and inside.

Other than that, is this junk or can it be reused? If it can be reused, how could I go about doing a good clean on this?

OIpinions and advice are much appreciated!

To answer your question....

The stock twins can be difficult to asses without any clear signs, of which yours dont seem to have. You can inspect the intake and exhaust blades closely for ANY kind of damage, you can look into the oil return port to see the shaft and inspect it for aggressive discoloration, spinning the blades by hand and feeling for smoothness and no crunchy feeling....

That's really about the extent of what you can do. There isnt a great deal of mystery with them when it comes to a visual inspection. Of course the best way to know is to use them. Fortunately they are not that difficult to remove so worst case, you can get your answer through trial.

The primary turbo is the one with the wastegate and cleaning can be done with a bristle brush and some degreaser. Cover the oil ins and outs and scrub away. Do what you can to clear the coolant passages. Compressed air will help a lot

The housing doesn’t appear to really have any cracking. You can pull both of the char’s out and then split the case to check the wastegate. If that’s ok, you could spend the time cleaning. You could have it blasted/ vapor honed ect. Soaking in purple power helps a lot with grime. Then a lot of elbow grease with a thread chaser. Replacing studs , ect. Unfortunately you won’t know how the oil seals are until you try them. If your housing is still in decent shape ( which it appears) you can install Bnr stage one replacement chra. They’re not terribly expensive.
