OEM battery size?

Hey guys,

I am in the process of removing the bin-mounted battery and restoring my FD back to the stock engine battery box.

I have all the box parts with the exception of the J hooks and battery tie down bracket. I may try a local auto parts store for those, or get OEM if I can't find anything that looks good.

What I am wondering about is what the best battery size is. The catalogs I have seen specify either a Group 24F or a Group 35. The Group 35 is slightly smaller. What is the OEM size? Or is there another option that works better?

Another related question, as part of this project I replaced the charging harness with a new part. The battery ground cable has a clip on it that should attach somewhere near or on the battery box, but I don't see a hole or other location to snap it into. The car was modified by a previous owner, I have no idea where this clip should go. Anybody happen to know where this location is?

Thanks in advance!

That clip may go to one of the J-bolts that hold the battery down.

I think Group 35 is the right size, that rings a bell.

I just went through this. Are you trying to use the actual box and the box lid? The tray and tie down fit fine but the box itself doesn't fit so well. The stock battery was a Panasonic which you can't get as far as I know.

Auto parts stores carry a battery that fits, but if it has extra plastic on the edges for a plastic carrying strap it won't fit in the actual OEM box. I used OEM tie down and j bolts, they aren't expensive.

the lid is a huge pain in the *** to fit, and I never fully figured out how to route the wire so that the clip goes wherever it may have belonged to.

Thanks for the replies guys!

Yes, I am trying to get the battery box put together just like stock. Good point on the edge tabs, I will look out for that.

The box does not fit well in the tray, for sure. Right now my aftermarket AST is also interfering with the box and lid as the top of the AST is pushed over a little at the top to clear the curved outlet pipe on my Blitz SMIC. I will have to figure that one out. Also, the AST overflow right now is routing around the box at the rear, and is dangerously close to the PS pulley. Things were a a lot simpler when the battery was in the bin...but I wanted stock so now I have to deal with the consequences...
