Octane booster - please read

Are there any specific reasons peopel dislike octane booster other than the "you should buy the better gas to begin with" comment?

I ask this because wouldn't it be a good idea to keep a bottle with you, what if you got a batch of bad gas, and noticed before major pinging started? You could dump the octane booster in (and I guess figure out a way to mix it up).


Also why not just add it for extra insurance the first time. Like say half a bottle with ever fillup or soemthing, just to raise the octane a couple points.

I would never "tune" to the octane boost, just use it as a safeguard, as some use water injection.

I always thought that octane booster always made the engine run lean, thats why i dont use it.

Octane booster only raises the octane by tenths of a point. If they claim it adds 7 points, it's really 0.7. Worthless. And if you hear "pinging", your motor is already gone.

Please read my comments in your other thread. This question is not 3rd gen specific and belongs in general automotive. Of course, a simple search on the forum or internet would have answered your question as well, without clogging up the forum.

your better off using something like toluene (114 octane) which is a paint thinner that you can get at any local paint or hardware store. It is the main ingrediant in most octane boosters. It is not recommended using more then a 30% mixture in your gas tank though. It is also a lot cheaper then octane booster. about 3-5 dollars a gallon or so. Or you can just use C16 racing fuel to boost octane for around the same price, and its 116 octane.
