OBD question

I appologize if this is a repost, but I've been over in Iraq for a while now and I've been out of touch. I don't have much time to search things. My question is, the 96 to 02 RX7 are they OBD II. If they are, is it possible to update the 93 to 95 RX7 with this option?

If there is a post about this process already, please point me in the right direction. Thanks in advance.

They don't use the OBDII interface on the later cars - they have the same diagnostic port the earlier cars have. Japanese have different rules than we do, OBDII wasn't mandatory from what I gather.

Anyhow, it would be VERY tricky to swap in the later ECU/wiring harness, and you really wouldn't gain anything. If you want the functionality of an OBDII code reader/scanner, buy a PowerFC.

Personally, I prefer having a non-heavy-diagnostics ECU. Much easier to remove stuff and "fool" the car.

My thought behind updating to OBDII was for emission purposes only, because my car constantly fails. But thank you for the info Dale, it's greatly appreciated!
