O M G !!!
I would much rather just do a supercharged Renesis swap because it is smooth and sounds proper for an RX-7. I am afraid of the REW engine because of its complexity and other frailties.
However, I have not the $ to make any plans to find a nice FD shell.
I apologize for mauling your thread Zerobanger. I was also just joking that time in the lounge when you and Jimlab were going at it, when I insinuated that you might be banned for being so feisty like Yzf and project.

You compare me to those religious freaks?
Yeah, you believe that the seven can't lose.
That is dogma if I ever saw it!
Seriously, when you argue you appear as one-sided and close minded as the freaks. Amazing how civil you are here when no one is arguing with you. I was wrong about you banger.

Here is the link for the car.. its also on sale at autotrader.com according to one of my friends http://members.tripod.com/~grannys/hagen.html
Yeah, too bad that car was developed using Jimlab's parts. Granny's is a rip-off shop. I'm sure Jimlab will pop in here.....
BTW, those 1/4 times were pathetic, considering the cost of the conversion. A well driven FD with only a downpipe and cat-back should be able to equal those times and trap speed. I'm not impressed, especially since you could have done 3 engine rebuilds for the cost of swapping in a STOCK LT-1.

I ran a 13.4 at 110 with downpipe, catback and RB intake duct as 12 psi. My R1 weighs 2700 pound with half a tank of gas.
This guy spent that much time and those are the results? Damn. A for effort, F for execution.

Changing oil every 5k+ miles, getting close to 35mpg, no need for monitoring water temps like your life depends on it, no turbo timers/spool-down techniques, no worry of detonation, no turbo/motor rebuilds, etc. These are just a few of the reason why someone would swap the motor into the car. Now, if you can add power and torque on top of that, all the better.

Rich, you must realize that not everyone's reason for building a v8-rx7 is to have an all-out, full-blown, drag car. I bet if you polled the people who actually did the conversion, not just the posers who like to talk about it or bash it, you would find that more than half of them did it for reliability and "ease of ownership" reasons.

if you think you get close to 35 MPG with any v8 in the rx7 shell, I'm laughing my *** off.
Everything you said there I can put a renisis on it and it will true, and the gas mileage is comparable to a V8.
Point in fact, I do get close to 35mpg. This isn't a guess or an estimate, this is the real-world mileage I'm seeing. And this is from a motor that is producing in the neighborhood of 400rwhp/400lb/ft. I don't see alot of Renesis motors out there making 400/400, do you?
Let's not try to compare apples and oranges here. Give Mazda a call and tell them you want to go 5k miles between oil changes and see what they say. Seeing as how the rotary is an oil-consuming engine, you'd be dry LONG before 5k miles.

BTW, I really get sick of seeing the 30+ mpg BS. Yes, it's possible to get 30 mpg with a stock LT-1/LS-1 at absolute steady-state cruise on the highway. But in town or hard driving, it dips into the teens just like a rotary does. Every test of an LT-1/LS-1 in the mags (where they report test mpg) has shown this to be true. Also, it's not like GM builds the most reliable engines on earth either. I know many people that had major engine work at 100k miles or less with their LT-1/LS-1s.
The magazines that are testing LS1's and LT's and are seeing low fuel mileage are testing cars that weigh 3600lbs and MORE. I'm sure you realize that the weight of the car is a major contributor to the kind of fuel mileage you get. My ~35mpg is not "steady-state" hwy driving like you suggested, it is a fair combination of both. And believe me, I don't exactly lug the motor around.
What price can you replace two 3-rotor motors for? I'd be very surprised if you could do one 20B for the price that I did my conversion for.

I don't understand why this has to be such a black and white issue. It seems that this is so divided, you can't take a neutral position. I don't dislike the 13B, I'm actually rather fond of it. When people talk to me about why I put the v8 in there, it's not because there is anything "wrong" with the rotary. It just isn't going to ulitmately suit my plans for the car.
You have your zealots out there, most of which seem to show up in these threads, that think there is ONE and ONLY ONE motor that belongs in the car. Hey, that's fine. That's their opinion. It's amazing to me that being such purists, they don't take issue with people putting the 20B in there, despite it never being produced that way. I'm assuming because it's still a "rotary" they overlook that particular bastardization.

Fair enough. You could certainly rebuild two 13B's for what I have in this car, damn near three of them. We can do the easy math here. If I fill my tank up (~19.5 gal/US) and I can go 630 miles before having to fill it up again, how many mpg am I getting? I drive more around town then I do hwy also. Granted this isn't all-out light to light driving, but I get on it a good bit. I found it hard to believe also, but it seems the weight of the car makes a substantial impact.
Lost time, please quit trashing my thread. This is about my car and my engine. I'm sick of you V8 guys coming in here and raining on my parade. I freaking enjoy the feel of my car and after driving it on saturday night I went to post about how hard it pulled and you V8 idiots have to come on and talk about the V8 conversion. Take your V8 and shove it up your fat *** I dont care. I drive an Rx7 not some fat *** bloated POS Camaro posing as an rx7.
The only pistons I want to hear about in this thread are the ones in my brake's. Don't like it? Go hump a brick.

Zero - It's wonderful that you had to start a whole thread about driving your car. It's a good thing the rest of us don't feel the need to start one every time we drive our car though, there wouldn't be any bandwith left if we did. It's also quite wonderful that decided to title it, "O M G". I'm guessing this was an attempt to get people to look and see what you had to say, seeing if you had titled it, "Hey, I drove my car tonight" I don't think anyone would have bothered. I'm sure you like the attention, most kids do. After all, that's what temper-tantrums are all about.
No one is "raining on your parade", as you described it. Some of us are having an intellectual discussion about our cars, not calling people "idiots", calling their cars, "fat *** bloated POS Camaros", and telling them to, "shove it up their fat ***". Come to think of it...... if a teenager were to have a temper-tantrum, I bet it would sound very much like that.

Lost Time,
You pick the most inappropriate posts to preach your V8 propaganda.
Heres one that you are invited to. I *DID* believe it or not put a V8 in my freaking car. I hated it.
