NY Mechanic

Hi everyone, this is my first post after about a week or so of searching and reading through threads etc.

I'm currently at the end of a long journey of saving money to buy an FD, something I've always wanted to do ever since my stepfather owned a '79 rx7. I always wanted to show him up, and in turn totally fell in love with the car. Granted I've always had school loans to pay for and everything, but I'm almost ready to put down around 15k to buy an FD this spring/summer. ---

The point is I have two questions that I couldn't find answers to in other threads, and was hoping someone could point me in the right direction. I'm going to be extrememly picky about the FD I finally buy, and because of this, I have no probelm going anywhere in the continental US to get it. The thing is, I live in Buffalo, NY, which isn't exactly the haven of sports cars or sports cars enthusiasts. This is my main problem. I feel I have a very strong understanding of FDs and the problems they have occured, and what to look for and what to avoid. But I don't know how exactly I'd be able to go about inspecting these things on a car thats in say California, when im 2000+ miles away. Ideally I would like to find a couple cars in a generally close area that I could examine, but if that's not possible, how would I go about inspecting the cars when I'm so far away? By no means do I want to buy a car that will have problems in the long run that I won't be able to recognize at first, and I also don't really want to have to make multiple plane trips across the US.. even though that's what it might come down to being.

Secondly, is anyone aware of a good rotary/rx7 mechanic in Buffalo area? Toronto is about an hour or so away, and I assume there would probably be a decent mechanic I could trust my potential baby to there, but also Rochester is an hour away and Cleveland about 2. I don't want to work through a trial and error process, and the local car forum I'm apart of here includes NO ONE with an FD (all civics and fbodies) so I don't have anyone local I can really ask. I know there are a few rx8's around, but I don't think they are really enthusiasts. Anyways, I know how important it is to have a good mechanic work on our cars, and I've read alot about the experiences others have had when going to the Mazda dealerships. I just want to find someone I can love and trust, considering this car will potentially replace any women in my life

I suppose I'm going to be looking for a fd with around 70-90k on the body and 20 or less on a rebuilt motor, and hopefully protection mods already applied.. oh well.. I'm rambling. Hopefully this wasn't just another lame post to you guys, as I really hope to become a member of this community, in multiple ways

Thanks again
