i remember reading in a post, that its normal for when you tunr on your car for the rpm to be at 3000 then drop to 1700 or 1500. thats what my car does... is that normal?

i searched but about 1 million threads came up, and i checked as many as i could but some dind't have it

 

mine when I start it goes to 2000 then to 1800 or 1900 and as it warms up it drop drop drop to 760.

 

i c, when i turn the car on it revs high for like 6-7 seconds then it drops to like 1700.

 

yeah its supposed to warm up the car a little faster, I believe only the 3rd gens have but im not sure. Its normal but just touch the pedal and the rpms will go back to normal. Its not good for the motor from what i've read on it.

 

excellent because i was pretty sure it was normal, then my friend who has a '67 mustang was shocked that my car was idling that high i told him "chill out it will go down " but he said thats not normal. just making sure

 

I always start the car in first gear, and it never goes up to 3k or anything like that. When i start it goes to 1500 and then it drops to 1 and stays there till it warms up.

So my sugestion is to start it in the first gear always.

 

Start the car in 1st gear? won't the car take off and die or hit you garage door.

 

Haven't you heard of clutch before? See when you press it and you put it to first gear and start the car, It won't go all the way to 3k it will just go to maybe 1500k that way you wont blow your seal from the cold start up.

 

Oh, were you talking about sitting in the car waiting for it to warm up while you hold the clutch pedal in leaving in it first. I gotcha now I didn't think about it that way.

 

you are not funny at all. Just put in a first gear hold the clutch, start the car, hold the clutch 2 seconds after it started, get it out of the gear, realese the clutch, and do whatever you do, it will idle around 1k or 1500k instantly. You don't have to sit in the car for more that 3seconds. GET IT?

 

I wasn't trying to be funny, I just didn't know what you meant by it. But at least u explained what you were saying now, so now I know what u mean.

 

That's the Accelerated Warm Up.

All you need to do is blip the gas pedal and it will stop, or do as eariler stated and start the car in gear.

 

Mahjik is correct. It's the AWS, or accelerated warmup system. You can bypass it by starting the car in gear (with the clutch in) which is my personal preference, or by tapping the throttle after startup.
The other benefit of starting it in gear is that it reminds me to always remember to leave it in gear when I turn it off, so if the e-brake fails (like it has to other members on this forum) the car won't roll away.

 

whats so wrong with the car doing what it does?
what does it bother you or something. You can start
you car hit the turbo timer for 10 minutes lock your car and run inside your house grab your dognut and coffee, brush your teeth and by the time you come out your all warmed up and ready to go. whats so wrong with that?

Leaving your car in gear won't prevent
it from rolling way if Ebrake Fails..
May slow it down a little..

Remember our Engines are rotary..
and doesnt Lock when left in gear
with the car off like Piston engines..
The Rotor just runs as the car rolls
down hill. = )

AWS's purpose was to heat the cat up as quickly as possible...Just most people don't like a cold engine idling at 3000...

 

the AWS is a little harsh on the engine, most prefer to either start in gear or blip the throttle to kill it.

and i'm pretty sure leaving the car in gear will prevent it from rolling away, has to do with the trans not the engine...for example, if the car is pointed up a hill put it in a forward gear, pointed down use reverse.
