Non-sequential turbo question
I've got a 2nd gen N/A right now, so I don't really know much about 3rd gens or turbos. However, my dad is looking into a new car. He's shown interest in the FD, 350z, and nsx. At first he was all for the FD, but then he started questioning the sequential turbo system, since it's complicated and a lot more prone to problems than a non-sequential (like that of a 300zx). I told him you can convert the turbos to non-seq, but he didn't know if it would pass e-check or anything since the computer isn't regulated for it. He isn't the kind of guy who's gonna go mod it to hell and back, maybe an intake and exhaust, but that's about it. So knowing that, would converting to non-seq hurt his EPA standards or anything like that? Thanks in advance.
Search ****'s, go ahead and eat me alive, but I didn't see anything in the non-seq turbo threads.

It shouldn't do anything to the emissions of the car. It's still running the same 10psi of boost, and has the same amount of fuel. As part of the NS conversion you have the option of removing things like the EGR and air-pump, but if you need to pass smog tests (like i do) just leave it all in.
As far as reliability of the sequential system is concerned, I got into a debate with Mahjik (a leading moderator of the 3rd gen section) a couple months ago that you might be able to dig up. But lets just say there is considerable debate over whether or not the seq. system is worth the upkeep. Thats gonna be up to you, but you can read our opinions.

I got a non-seq setup with out an airpump? The guy said i most likely wont pass because the check engine light was on. It was properly warmed up (I drove around for 30 mins) and placed on the emmission dyno, after the guy stalled three times, he got it going and i ended up passing. Only mod is a downpipe. Hope this helps.
