Does anybody know of what kind of engines (non-rotary) will fit in a 1993 -> RX-7?

Puh-lease tell me you are kidding!!

Anything will fit, it is just a matter of how much money/time/effort you want to spend in accomplishing this "goal". PM jimlab, he is putting a v8 in his rx7.

V8 LT1 chevy fits www.grannysspeedshop.com(site seems to be down at the moment) has what you need to get it in there. If you have an interest in doing a LT1 conversion, do a search for jimlab and pull up one his threads to see his monster in the works. I reccomend not PM'ing jimlab as just about everything on his conversion has been discussed in his huge thread out there.

A MKIV Supra motor has been done also but it takes alot of $$ and work and really isn't practical...

I totally agree, and besides the car is built around the engine so if you put another engine in you get a worse handling car.

I agree with what rikki is saying as well. BUT . People guess what rotary engines arent THE greatest engines in the world. If they where they would be in F1 cars. And nooo they are not.

I can see this turning into another v8 vs. rotary thread...

Some people just want something more reliable, with decent horsepower without a turbo system, and something with a boat load more torque..

For all of you that say a LT1 will throw the weight of the rx7 off, do some research on the swap before you jump to that conclusion...

Actually, the rules pretty much eliminate rotaries from competing in virtually any organized "professional" racing.

EDIT: We don't need another rotary vs V8 debate. Hats off to Jim and his attention to detail but I would never do it.

1) GROW A MULLET!!! 2) BUY A MUSTANG!!! JK

I am not a rotary purist and I am not going to be organizing cult meeting where we can get toghter and burn pistons in protest but... Leave the rotary in there...

If you like the look... and have the money(which you WILL need to do a swap) BUY A VIPER AND BE DONE WITH IT!!! Then we can stop flaming you, and be jelous of your car... very simple...

Hell, I saw a Viper GTS go on ebay the other day for close to $30K and it was a damn '98! I think we better start keeping our eyes peeled .

see, these flames aren't too bad. I like this board. No, I've always loved the RX-7 (Generation 3 I think you call it). However, I've always been a bit skeptical of the rotary and have known very few people who have had success with it. I know, you can say the same for any engine, but I've always loved 8 cylinders and I love the RX-7 look, size, etc... If anything I would look for a trashed RX-7 without a servicable engine in a junkyard and go from there. I know people who have done the same kind of thing with other cars. It would take some time yes, but it can be done. Either way, it's more of just a thought in my head that I thought I'd see how possible it could or would be.

As for my wanting V8 power and RX-7 looks to just go and get a Viper. Vipers never come cheap, they always always attract attention, and there's a huge difference between 8 cylinders and 10.

Anyways, thanks for your help guys. Just the fact that you have RX-7's means you have nice cars, so unfortunately I'll have to take all the flaming you give, because unless you rice it out, I can't really say anything negative.

Modding and maintaining FDs isn't cheap either.

My FD ALWAYS attracts attention.

Those 2 cylinders don't make much of a difference when the FD weighs a few less hundred pounds.

Besides, if you're worried about replacing an engine, a rebuild or reman costs a bit less than a GOOD V-8 swap and most of us will only have to replace/rebuild once. (err...hopefully)

FD = 3rd generation rx7 or 93+ rx7's...

People say FD or FD3S because it's the body code, kinda like a Fox Body stang or an A-Body Chevelle..

If you look at a 3rd gen rx7 win # you'll see FD is always part of the vin..
