okay im new to rotary but my motor sounds like it has a loud lifter tick. i know its not piston driven its rotary. i been lookin at other videos of engione bays sounds and it seems pretty normal to have a sound liek that is it? it idles fine warmed up and everything seems good. my upgrades are cold are intake cat back exhuast boos controller...... i cant hear it from my cockpit but when i open the hood it seems pretty loud... could this be apex seals goin? how does apex seals sound when there done?
+1 for an exhaust leak.
Exhaust leaks can be somewhat hard to diagnose with the stock twins. There are a lot of seals and often times, poorly manufatured downpipes or stretched turbo studs cause hard to diagnose exhaust leaks.

if its a loud ticking with a rhythm to it, its most likely an exhaust leak.
if its sounds very soft and ticks very rapidly, it the spark plugs firing.
it could even be apex seal chatter, but i'd never heard of chatter being noticeable

It could also be broken TCA linkage, if it's not so rhythmic.

I had a "tick" when I first bought my car many years ago. When I was removing the PS system, I undid the belt and the PS pulley nearly broke in two. I imagine that it was cracked the entire time, and that it was getting worse and worse. (nice grammar huh?) Until I removed the belt. It went away after that, and I've since put back on the PS. While its probably not your problem, it could be something to keep in mind. CJ
I have had this clicking noise on all three generations of rx7s I've owned. It was always worn
spark plug wires. Sometimes I could see arcing at
night when I opened the hood. When I changed the
plug wires, the smooth rotary sound came back.

just a thought. if the noise is botherin me. you think i can use lucas oil stabalizer to make it less noisey and plus its good for the motor? i remmeber using lucas oil on my z32 and it help alot. jus a thought
Seriously, it seems like you start these threads but don't actually read the replies. This is the second thread where you've completely disregaurded all comments given and come up with some nonsense.
How could that possibly help? It's not a mechanical noise made by under lubed springs and lifters. These cars have 3 moving parts, and if those parts are making noise, no ammount of oil stabalizer will save you from that world of hurt.

* its not an echaust leak, no rattling or anything... it sounds like a lifter noise on a car.sounds likie a tick/echo and higher revs goes away. im startin to think its one of mybelts loose or a tensioner needs to be tightent. so tonighti will check and let you know. sorri if i pissed anyone off.
I LOVE ALL YOU FD3S PEOPLE. I WISH THERE WAS MORE IN MY CITY. holla
