No primary boost

Hey there!

My sequiential FD is having a problem with the primary turbo, the boost kicks in at 4500 RPM when the 2nd turbo kicks in but untill then im having 0 boost. Its a 1999 FD with full 3" (no cat), apexi power FC, V mount kit and Greddy intake.

Also the turbo kicks in at 6000 rpm in 1st gear. If i try to boost from 3rd gear i build about 2-3 psi of boost.

Im thinking about porting the twin turbos and go poor mans non sequential instead but dunno if its worth it as it is right now

Thanks

-Tim

I suspect your Charge Control valve is leaking a ton of air.

or the "c-clip" on the actuator fell off... which was my case. jack that baby up and check your actuator

is this car new to you? if so then perhaps the previous owner already converted it to non-seq.

i may be wrong but i dont think you can have secondary boost without making at least 7psi primary boost.

you could also have a really big boost leak

Loss of primary boost is frequently be caused by a bad check valve

Is there an audible "whooshing" sound when boosting? Could be a large boost leak. If there is no audible boost leak, check the 1" hoses to and from the primary turbo air bypass valve. Also check the operation of that valve. Check and ensure your vacuum chamber is retaining vacuum. Easiest way to do that is to run the car to build vacuum, then wait about ten minutes and disconnect the hose to chamber. If you hear it suck in air then it's holding, if not, check the check valve for it and ensure its good. All else fails, it's likely a bad rats nest solenoid.
