No boost after shifting! wtf!??!

ok so im just finishing getting the kinks out after replacing the engine.

the car will boost perfectly fine in any gear(10-8-10 pattern) but when i shift it, it just wont past 2-5lbs of boost.... untill i hit 6K rpm or so then both turbos kick in at 10 lbs.... wtf is going on!?!?!?!

One possibility is that the TCA turbo control solenoid "E" (IIRC) which is the pressure side one on the solenoid rack could be sticking. This prevents the control system from fully resetting to the primary turbo mode after a shift, depending on RPM's the shift is made at. This is a common failure mode and will produce the symptoms you describe.

Yea I had the same problem with my fd when i first got it, it boosted fine in fist gear but then when i got it into second it only boosted 5lb. When I did my vacuum hose, I found out that my turbo control solenoid was stuck, you should try checking that out first.

The pressure side TC solenoid (in the rack) is a definitely possibility, but the vacuum side fails a lot too because it's mounted directly to a hotter part of the intake.

If you want to nip the problem in the bud I would replace both of them with new ones from Mazda. Using used solenoids is possible but you'll want to test them thoroughly before installing them.

on mine the little retaining clip holding the actuator arm on the valve fell off. Quick and easy to check.
