newly rebuilt engine and SMOG check

i have just gotten a rebuild on my FD and my SMOG check is overdue by almost 7 months. i was told by my mechanic to break it in for a 1000 miles and then smog it.

does anyone know if i can pass with only 50 miles on the new engine? i was pulled over last night because of the registration--or lack there of. the cop was nice enough not to take the car and just issued me a fix-it ticket.

thanks

Visual will be a problem if you don't have all your smog equipment and you're going to an unknown friendliness smog shop. I failed visual at one of those types of shops with only a DP, so beware. Lots of other folks have passed in similar situations because the tech just didn't care. Probably best to find a friendly shop and go there just to avoid any trouble.

As for whether or not you'll pass...with only 50 miles, it's possible, but also depends on whether you've got a precat and main cat, as well as the rest of your smog gear (air pump, etc.). I think you might be able to go to a smog shop have have them sniff your car as a pre-test to see how bad off you are...if you pass, go for the real deal

Make sure it's FULLY warmed up at least 30 minutes of driving on the highway is my advice.

thanks for the input guys...i have all the smog stuff on. i failed smog mainly because the rear rotor was shot, in fact the housing was cracked due to detonation.

i think i will have it pre-tested soon. i will feel better though if i had a few hundred miles on the engine.

thanks again
