newbie question?

Hello,

I recently just sold my 87 benz and I'm trying to figure out what my next car is going to be.. Ive narrowed it down to a Subaru wrx or Mazda RX-7( 3rd gen ). Really i hate the way a WRX looks, only thing it has going for me is the AWD for when i have to drive to the mountains.. then theres the RX-7, looks awesome, RWD what im used to in my benz, and rotary powered. Can you guys clue me in on the RX-7? I keep hearing that RX-7's are horrible.. they only last 40K miles then you need a new engine. blah blah blah.. but i just found a thread on this forum saying they can last 100K + miles as long as the seals, oil changed every 2K miles and regular maintence is done. which is it??? Im going off to college and have my tuition payed by mamma and papa so i have the money from my job to just blow on my car so maintence should'nt be a problem keeping up with. And one last Q, is the mazda community as open as the benz community? I had friends from another forum 190rev.net that would help me fix my car, install stuff and chill with me at the pick your part yards looking for the good stuff.

thanks so much!

Do a search here or, google. There are guys that have websites that explain the operation of the rotary, maintanance, reliability, ect. The car can be emotional but if you perform the recommended upgrades (silicone vacuum lines, ect) and, you keep on top of the maintanance, you should have a very reliable car.

I would not suggest the RX-7 unless you are a real car guy, or have extremely deep pockets to pay a car guy

The Rotary engine is in my opinion more unforgiving than unreliable, make a few mistakes or mistreat it and yes, you will blow your engine very quickly. Do some searching theres plenty on this topic.

mine also just gave out at 113k mi, as long as you keep it very wel kepted and perform the reliability mods and tune her up atleast every 3000 mi the she should be fine. usualy you only need deep pockes if you plan on moding her but if you keep the car relitivly stock she will be fine.

if it's going to be your only car, get the WRX. i have both an STi and FD, and quite frankly, the Suby is above and beyond a more practical car. it may not look as good (few cars look even half as good as an FD), but it's AWD, it's quick, and it's extremely practical for a sports car. i love my FD to death, despite being a broke-down bitch, but if one had to go, it'd be her.
