newbie looking for a few answers on the R2
I am just getting interested in the 3rd gen rx7s, and am currently involved slightly in hondas. I am graduating college in May and am wanting to purchase an 95 R2. I am trying to find out what normal problems I could expect to see with these cars. Such as engine problems after certain milage, do the stock turbos have problems and would it be better to upgrade. Please let me know any important information about the R2 I need to know.
Also if an R2 would be out of my price range which will be less than 25K, I would go for an R1 but would rather not. What are the differences between the two. And is 25K enough to find an r2 that has not been beat around for 8 years.
Thanks in advance for your help.

The key to these cars is maintenance, so look for a car that has all the records to it. Motors are normally going out around 80K+. Not saying you can't get 100K+ out of them, just giving you the norm. 80K+ is normal for someone that has actually driven the car as a sports car. Look for a silicone hose job, downpipe, midpipe, exhaust, computer, Emissions equipment, make sure if your state is **** on emission that the car passes before you buy it. The midpipe with factory computer is scary unless they have restrictor plates in the exhaust. The main reason for a mid pipe and restrictor plates is because if they got rid of the airpump the cats clog therefore they took them off, and they have to restrict the exhaust a bit until they get a computer to compensate for the additional boost pressure and volume of air flowing through the engine. Do some reasearch on Volume of air vs Boost pressure while your at it. If you get a chance have the car completely cold and be there for when it starts. R2 and R1 models aren't that different, so I would mainly go by quality of the car and milage. Good luck, and welcome to the forum.

For $25K you should be able to find a nice car... If you are willing to buy any color R2 then it should make it a bit easier since most of the R2's that came over were Red or Black. But as mentioned already ask the seller alot of questions about how they took care of the car... Be willing to buy a car out of state. And dont jump on the first one you see. Good things come to people that wait...
The only differences between the R1 and the R2s is that the R2's suspension was tuned down a bit since many people complained about the R1's suspension being much too harsh. And the R2's will have the passenger side airbags. Good luck...
