New Zealand Rx7

Heya ppl, i live in new zealand and i've just currently bought a 1996 gen3 rx7, i bought the car for quite cheap but i think its got its probs as well and would just like to hear some wise hints from u guys

3" exhaust with blitz NUR muffler
twin apexi filters
blitz bov
apexi gen1 avcr, rsm, t/timer
tanabe pro adjust coil overs
18 work rims

so pretty much stock still using the 2 lil blowers but i've noticed its a wee bit laggy down bottom and i just realised today when i fill my coolant resevior up it leaks most of the cooland i just put in back out the radiator itself isnt actually leaking or over heating but im a lil worried, and 1 last thing is that i use to own a type r teg and that thing just started strait away but the rx7 takes just a wee little bit longer is this normal? The cars done 76,000 kms and hasnt had a rebuild yet but the turbos have been rebuilt. Any help would be marvelous
oh yeah i picked it up for $16,500 NZD
Thanks for reading

should take more then 2-3 seconds after you turn the ignition.

mine takes about 1 1/2 seconds to start.. its not instant like most piston engines.

SLO NIZ,

Congrats on the purchase of the car!

For the coolant, where are you filling it up? If you are filling the plastic overflow tank (the one that has the level check stick in it), that's not were you want to top off the coolant. If you overfill that area, the car will kick the excess out on to the ground.

Check the picture above. That's were you want to top off your coolant at.

As far the the lagginess down low, check your boost pattern using the following test:

http://www.scuderiaciriani.com/rx7/boost_test.html

As for the starting, you may just need to do your normal maintenance for the car:

* Change spark plugs and check plug wires
* Oil and filter change
* Fuel filter change
* Flush coolant
* O2 sensor change

Good luck!

Hey great to see that you have got yourself an FD!! Have you resolved your problem yet? If you have blown your water tank then you will need to get a new one or invest in an alloy one, which I can get ahold of through one of my contacts.

What part of NZ are you from cause I am in auckland!!!

Check out my current build: https://www.rx7club.com/showthread.p...=1#post7400321

Let me know what you think and I am happy to help out if I can.

I see your running an electronic boost controller. That might be the problem for the lag down low. Hopefully adjusting the gain or how fast boost rises will solve your problem.

But best way to find out is to take the car for a good hit (i.e all the way to redline) in 3rd gear and measure the boost pattern. I suggest you do this on a highway or freeway as not to kill anyone on a local road, which seems to be happening quiet frequently here in Syd.

It should read 10 psi or close to 0.7 bar of boost up until 4500 rpm, then dip to around 8 psi (transition point between 1st and 2nd turbo), then hold 10psi up until red line. With your mods you'll should be getting slightly more than that particularly when the 2nd turbo comes on after 4500rpm, I would say you'll be seeing something like 10-9-11. Again you have a boost controller and should it be set properly it should maintain a steady boost pattern.

I'm not very familiar with the AVCR but it does look a little more complicated than the Blitz or Greedy ones to set up. You might want to download the manual and have a good read over it. Incorrect settings will make the car 'feel' like its slow or lags down low. Just remember don't set it too high either as the boost will rise very quickly giving the impression the car is faster but your boost will trail off as you get higher in the rpm range.

BTW before you start spending a load of money on modifications, it is alot wiser to spend that money on getting your car running 100%. If I could go back I would have done these basic things right the first time so don't slouch on them.
