You may save yourself some fabrication. Are you not aware of these?

This is the manual version. They also sell an automatic version. I have the manuel version. Works great!

How do you have that mounted on the RX7? Tuck into the radiator opening or under the car?

Radiator opening on my GTC bumper. It's spring loaded and has small padding to keep the back from scratching the paint. I recently drove 2,200 miles round trip to sevenstock and its held up very nicely.

Radiator opening would be best. Most states requiring a front plate, including Illinois, mandate that the plate be at least 12" off the ground. Go to all the trouble and expense and still get spanked for improper display would suck. Interferes less with airflow anyway.

Two years ago my state began issuing a "Special Interest" plate. Only one and it goes on the back. I have one. But there is a bit of an enforcement push now on those that only run one traditional plate. ~$75 ticket.

In Minnesota once your car is 20 years old you can get collector plates. You only need a rear plate then and never have to buy tabs again. I believe there is a mileage limitation though per year?

Definitely appreciate you tackling this problem but these exist and are near perfect!

Those are nice, but don't fit with my Rotary Extreme Vmount, and, as has been mentioned, are not a screw-in that could also hold a license plate.

It would be helpful to see a top-down view mechanical drawing, so I can see if it interferes before purchasing. It would be good if it stayed in-line with the frame as far forward as possible.

UPDATE:

I have a V-2 mocked up and really like this much more than my original design. After talking to Rennline, I purchased a front hook for 09+ subaru. It would work but the rear hook for the same car will allow me to tuck the mount up in the bumper about 1” further little more. This will give a little more stealth design.

This allowed me to shave some material off the front of the mount saving some weight. I am extremely impressing with the quality of the Rennline hook, for the money it is perfect. My only question is about the O-ring and nylon washers.

Side note, the loop part of the hook will not hit the bumper if left loose but you can tighten it so it doesn’t move.
