new to the scene!!

hey there fellow rx-7'ers. just picked up a 93 montego blue w/ tan. 87,xxx mi's. got it for $9500, little minor fender damage on both sides, clean title 1 owner. i felt that i got a pretty good deal, i will post pics when i get the car cleaned up. so far i this car has been a blast to drive, havent driven hard yet, but power feels pretty good at loew rpms.

thinkgs i noticed about the car, not sure if it normal or not.
-car has notchy shifting
-when car is just sitting idleing and you blimp the gas to 2k, the needle on the way down drops to a almost stalling and jumps back to normal idle about 800-900

been reading alot about this car and i think the mods i do is the preventive maintenance, or should i just drive it till it dies and then just replace the motor?? how much longer can i go on this motor if i do the preventive stuff?? the previous owner had always got it seviced at the local dealership. but after reading about dealerships not knowing about these cars i dont know if its a good thing or not.

anything i should know, please feed me in on it, thanks

Congratulations for your purchase and welcome to the club.

Hope to see photos soon.

Yes the shift is a bit notchy especially the second. If the car idles from 800 to 900 and normal operating temp it should be a very good sign that the motor was very well kept. A compression test would be ideal to see in which condidtion your rotary is. If after the test it is OK I would do the mods. If not I would wait and do a rebuild.

A boost test by means of a boost gauge would also be good to know what real power you have.

Good luck and have care of it.

Check with mazda and see if the recall was done on your car. The recall was because the engine would occasionally stall when you pushed the clutch in.
