new RX7 owner, need help!!!!

Hey everyone,

Well I just picked up my '93 FD about two weeks ago. It had idling problems and I have discover that the LIM gasket is leaking. So I am currently in the middle of replacing the gasket when one of the Turbo nuts/studs is not coming out and is pretty much rounded. I am going to try one or two more things but I think that I am going to have to bite the bullet and pull the engine.

So I have a couple of questions for you guys. The car has 68K miles and the original engine and Turbos. If I am going to go through the trouble of pulling the engine should I go for a Turbo rebuild or engine rebuild? Either way if I pull the engine at a minimum I am going to do the vaccum hose replacement and oil pan gasket.

Any suggestions????

Thanks,

IF you go turbo rebuild, expect a month downtime. If you go engine expect, hmmmmmm, indefinite downtime. There are no remans being made now.

If you feel you can pull the motor yourself than you should have no problem rebuilding it yourself. There are many of us on here who have already done so with no previous experience rebuilding rotarys. Get on RotaryAviation.com and buy their rotary rebuild video. It walks you through the whole process. They also sell the complete rebuild kit for a pretty fair price.

As for the turbos, you can rebuild those yourself too but I would recommend BNR if your looking for something more high performance. Otherwise you can buy a rebuild kit for those too and do them yourself. Its pretty self explanatory.

thats rediculous. Take the car to a rotary shop and have them remove the LIM for you and replace the gasket. Why fix the motor and turbos when they are fine? In my opinion theres nothing better than the original motor and turbos. You want to keep those as long as possible because the aftermarket is a headache and questionable.
