New RX-8 Shift **** and boot (pics)

Well, after 65000 miles, the FD's shift **** and boot were pretty worn down. I bought an RX-8 5-speed shift **** from www.rx7.com and a genuine leather shift boot from www.redlinegoods.com. They are both great quality and with some work, fit very nicely. The leather quality is top-notch and the **** is of course top-notch because it's OEM Mazda.

To be honest I haven't really looked much, but how do you get an Rx-8 shift know with a five speed pattern on it? Do you have to take it apart and do it yourself?

There is a 5-spd option for British market RX-8's. It looks really good. If I didn't allready have a carbon one, i'd definately get one of those.

It isn't the light up one. This one if $100 vs. about $200 for the light up one. I didn't feel like spending twice as much so it could light up.

The reason it looks so high is because of the angle and closeness of the picture. It is pretty much in the exact same position as the OE one.

Try visiting the rx8club.com.
The fourm member there sold his "almost brand new rx8 ****" for $40 shipped. It does sit little higher than the stock ****, but it's great.

hey littlemillia... I have the same **** too. Looking good...

Question though. What did you use to bring the leather boot up? The RX8 **** sits higher, so there would be exposed shifter metal between the **** and the boot. I used an old-fashioned nut so that the boot would sit higher and cover up that space. I need to do something to make it sit snug in there though. It tends to move. What did you use? Matter of fact, what did everyone else with a **** do to fix the boot gap problem?

The aftermarket boot I got is a lot longer than the stock one. I just folded the top of it inward and it sits snugly against the ****. You can kind of see it in the pics.

Nice shifter console...looks like there is not a scratch on it. Oh, and nice shift **** by the way, hehe
I repainted the console myself, you can see the difference in colors between in the the radio console. Eventually, I am goung to paint the radio console and the gauge cluster surround to match nicely.

So how does the rx8 shifter feel comapred to our stock FD one?
It is a little bigger and maybe a little heavier. The extra weight makes it easier and feel more solid when you shift. The size is good if you have big hands like myself, but might feel a little big if you have tiny hands. The triangle shape also fits your hand very well. It feels like its made for being held unlike the stock one.

i like the way the rx8 **** looks but dont care for the feel at all. the v (apex) at the bottom seems to cut into my palm - just slight - but annoying.

I just put in a round leather razo **** that feels awesome.
