New project RX-7

I just received my 93 RX-7 with 98k on the chassis and clean title for $5.5k. Obviously the car was sold as is and would not start. First thing I did was try and crank it. Some horrible screeching sound came from the engine. Thought it might be the starter, had a friend crank it and hear it was not from that area but from the belt area. I took off the belt that runs from the crankshaft to alternator, water pump and air pump. Sure enough, the water pump has seized. Cranked it again with the belts off and it started! Well it idled quite poorly, if I gave it some gas it would stay running.
The funny part was after I shut it down after it was running for about 10-15 seconds, there was literally over a quart of oil laying on my garage floor from the tailpipe lol! I guess there is no hope for this engine and I will have to start from scratch. There was oil in the air intake manifold just aft of the intercooler. It appears most of the electronics work, besides the windows and power mirrors. Neither side windows will roll down, nor do the power mirrors work. I wonder if there is a blown fuse. Maybe a simple fix? Anyways, do blown engines sell for anything, like for a core?

it all really depends on the condition of the engine inside. But yes they give you like 500 bucks( correct me if iam wrong). When i was looking for new motors they gave you anywhere from 500 to 700 i believe.

If you get a reman engine from Ray at Malloy Mazda, you will need to return to them a core motor or pay the core charge.

Might be a good option since you don't know what the current motor has been through - like a total overheat from the water pump seizing. That could mean a lot of warped internal parts. Just got to make sure the motor is not ported or anything like that.

Ray at Malloy Mazda is THE place to get OEM parts. Tel is the stickied FAQ thread.
