Except in the case of SR Motorsports (Shane Racing) models where SR has removed the pins themselves. They are an authorized Apex'I distributor.

Yeah I know of Aspec tuning.

I dont need a shop to install an ecu for me, everything you see listed in my Sig I did myself, Ive got a clutch job coming up, I polish parts, and im going to be pulling my own motor.

Plus, If A-Spec is anything like Gotham racing, they would have asked me if I wanted the pins or the wires cut, in which case I would have said wires.

So whats the difference?

Actually, I would have only offered to cut the wires on install or told you which wires to cut if you were to install it yourself. Two reasons, first and most important is warranty issues, second I have had two customers come in with a PFC that didn't work or work right do to pulled pins, both were fixed the moment we put in one of the new ones we have here.

So what did you do with the ones that didnt work with the pulled pins? Write it off as a loss?

Jason,
Those cutomers had bought their ecus from another place and eventually brought there car to us. In those cases those people actually had to buy 2 Power FCs just to get the car running right. We don't recommned cutting any wires due to the fact the it voids any warranty.

Sorry if it was confusing but the customer was charged for a new ecu as the bad ecu was bought from a different shop/company .. once we put a known good power fc in the car ran like it suppose to.. so all in all those guys actually ended up purchasing (2) power fc's one that they "burnt" and one from us.

sorry to hear what happened to you.. good luck!

back from the dead

Was the commander the right match for the ecu since the different models aren't interchangable?

^ I was gunna ask that before reading 4 pages to. Mine ran fine without cutting any wires, so I can only assume it may be for the A/C since that was the only thing not connected. I asked Apexi and they weren't shure, just stated it was for JDM and not to clip the pins or it would short the unit. Well if 91-96 USDM and JDM are the same except RHD vs LHD and EGR then why would the wiring harness be different? Why do we need to cut the harness? I think it's a bandaid for only some cars just like the 3k rpm stumble. When I install my new harness, I won't be cutting any wires unless the A/C doesn't work at all and even then I will be reluctant to do so.

The exact same thing happened to 1badd7 (James) and I on our way back from the dyno. This is probably the story you heard. Injectors opened full blast, fuel pump stayed on, and filled the engine full of fuel. Went as far as spewing out of the air filer on the turbo.

We opened and I found out one of the grounds shorted out. Called Apexi, but of course they were no help. James just ordered a new PFC. Gave the shorted one to a friend. He had someone fix the short with some solder and it works perfectly fine now. He's been driving with thet pfc for about 4 months now, no problems.

I feel for you, but it is still fixable. Just bring it to a computer repair shop and they'll take care of it.
