New motor lasted 30 minutes!
I bought a remanufactured engine from adkins rotary, with 3mm apex seals, and a street port. I got my car out of the shop yesterday, everything seemed to run ok, but after about 10 mins. the engine started to die while idiling. IT then shut off at a red light, took about 10 mins to get started again. it then started running really bad, and had about half the power. I took it straight back to the repair shop, it then started making a popping sound. I think that the engine is probably blown, but it isnt smoking. I talked to dave at atkins rotary today, and he said to take it out and send it back. Does anyone know about atkins rotary? Do you think they will stand behind their engine? If not, I will have to sell the car with a blown engine. So anyone wanting a silver FD with 59K, Absolutely excellent shape, I may be selling it!

The shop should definitely fix your car for free. You shouldn't pay anything at all. If they don't cover the warranty, take them to court, you will definitely win. Make sure not to say anything bad about them on the forum, because it will not look good on your part. Good luck and don't sell your car just because someone didn't do their job properly.

I would think that they have a warranty on the engine. If not, you got ripped off. Sorry to hear about the whole thing, I'm looking into getting a new engine soon enough too.

also labor
I am sure they will replace the engine, but most importantly they should also take care of the labor to reinstall it. Just curious, did you do a compression check before you rolled out of the shop ? I am assuming that you have done one since to determine that the engine is blown.
Keep us posted on the progress and good luck.
Happy Thanksgiving.

good luck.. most of the time the engine builder is going to blame on the shop who does the install and then the installing shop will blame on the engine builder. They don't lose. You lose. You ended up paying for an engine and installation the second time. I feel sorry for you. Hopefully you can get your money back.

You know your engine may be fine. The symptoms you have also sound like the line to the MAP sensor may have come off. I would check that first. There have been many people who thought their engine was blown only to discover this problem.

I checked on the map sensor, It checked out ok, My mechanic took off the intake plenum, and it had a hairline crack in the on the corner, but It didnt appear to be leaking. Could a stopped up catalytic converter cause those symptoms, maybe the popping noise is a blown exhaust manifold gasket

I'm sorry to hear that you're anticipating to give up on your car already. There's two things that you need to look at hear. Your motor was built by Atkins right, but your motor was installed by someone else? That needs to be clarified. I'm just trying to play a devils advocate here. But in any case where ever the problem is stemming from, they should fix it for free. I've never seen a warranty that didn't go past 1 year for any motor job. Well all I have to say is don't give up so easily on your car, it's a rare beast. But hey to each his own! Find out the facts before you blame it on your motor. If anything work backwards don't assume it's your motor. There's a lot of things that make a motor run in this car, especially in this car and if you have any of those backwards or missing it can be bad, trust my I know. I do my own work to both my cars and you really need to know how to put back the rotary to make it run the way it should. Well good luck and I hope that you decide to fight this and KEEP YOU CAR!!!

I have a atkins engine in my car and its great. There is no way Dave won't stand behind his engines, although I seriously doubt it was the engine that went bad (although it is possible). I'm betting (no offense to the mechanic who did the install) the install was messed up and he forgot to connect something like a oil line or some other line. Best advice is what others have said. CHECK YOUR COMMPRESSION with a rotary compression checker. Good luck.
