New to mazda's, gauge cluster issue, all gauges DEAD.

The car I'm looking at getting has a dead cluster. He checked the fuses for me to no avail. Can anyone offer any input on what to look for to resolve this issue? I would be driving this car 2000 miles w/o a cluster If I cant resolve it.

Thanks
Dave

if all the guages are Out,then I would check the Big connectors Behind the Guage cluster. There are Two.Have you checked the Meter fuse Under the Dash,Driver's side kick panel,in the corner.?..And IF your Speedometer is NOT working EITHER then your cable is not hooked up to your Trans,or it is Off at the cluster..Worse Comes to worse, you get a Small Flashlight and Tape it to the Steering column surround..or have it handy to check speed.,,Crap..I am Replying if the car is Second gen!..BUT meter fuse would be likely,(not sure if the Speedo on the 3rd gen is electric or Cable)

from what I've gathered it is an electric speedo. If it was mechanical I would assume it would work or the cable is inop or not plugged in. The fuses have been checked.
