New kind of car battery

I posted this in the interior/exterior/Audio section but was not getting much feed back on it.

I am looking to relocate my battery into the rear bin behind the passenger seat. While there are many batteries that are proven to fit quite well, i was still on the look out for smaller batteries that could work with the relocation. Well in my research i ran across this website.

8lb 600 cca battery

https://s.p10.hostingprod.com/@www.v...products_id=32

More specs are on the page. I just figured id share the knowledge for others who wish to use a much lighter battery in their design for what ever the application.

Me doing the battery relocation is irrelevant, but i figured id share a new battery technology a friend showed me.

As of right now, i am planing on it. Im just awaiting an email back from them in regards the the mounting plate that is attached to the battery. I dont need that plate as i have something else in store. I will defiantly keep everyone updated if i get it and test it out and what not. I will also do a battery relocation guide like the others i have seen based on my setup.

Nope never heard of it before. I just did however. Its only like 360-400 cca's. This battery above is 600 cca's and 1/2 the weight of the braille battery at only 8 lbs. Also from the reading i have done, this battery is not affected by cold as much, and also it doesn't have as bad of a drain off as typical batteries.

Mind you i didnt look into braille battery much, just glanced at a site or two.

What about charging it, or having to get it jumped? maybe I missed that in the reading.

As far as i can tell, its like any other battery, just lighter and without the power draw and decrease as typical batteries.

I've seen that the voltphreak guys are doing group buys on other car forums for 30% off. If people are interested I'd say contact them and open a group buy thread.

Wow, very interesting. I wonder how they do against heat, vibration and full discharges.

I never heard of that.

I rather just stick with my optima yellow top. And it costs 1/4 of what that other battery costs.

Had it in the rear bin since last May with no problems.

With anything new the prices are always higher, in time and as the technology catches on, i believe it will drop some more. I havnt gotten my battery yet, ad me and my friend ordered the 4.5 lb one at the same time. They are awaiting something to finish up and send out the 2 batteries to the same addy. Saves on shipping. Once i get it, the project will be underway and ill let everyone know how it turns out.

Dis1 - I believe as apart of the testing they do test that, although i do not know for sure.

Link to the battery my friend and i are getting. - https://s.p10.hostingprod.com/@www.v...products_id=33

It was 330 when i ordered it, seams they bumped the price a little bit since then.

I really like the idea of this. I was planning on relocating my battery, but if this really works out fine, their would be no point in doing so because of it's size. You figure your going to spend at least $200 plus a lot of hours if you do relocate, this may be a better solution.

If you google voltphreaks, you'll see a lot of e46 guys using this...

I know i have not posted here in a while. Never fear tho, the project is still under way. I have been busy with school, and i have not been happy with my previous idea for securely mounting the battery. Also getting the right stuff to secure terminals to it was a pita. But all that is good now and all i need to do is fab up the bracket/mount and run the wires and im good to go. Once i have completed everything i will post a full write up on here. Similar to this one:

https://www.rx7club.com/3rd-generation-specific-1993-2002-16/battery-relocation-writeup-533616/

His relocation as well as others inspired mine. Mine wont be as neat as some of the others, but it will be unique and i hope to make it real nice looking in the end.

I dont want to keep the battery it in the engine bay, hence me going along with the relocation. As i stated above, i got a good idea in my head on how im going to do everything now. With this battery it has like a 30 min reserve capacity and has a lot more cranking amps then that battery. i like to have the extra juice and umph if i need it.
