New "Jet Hot"... Worth a read..!!

Just found out about this site and products........hey sounds like I can go down the street and get my DP coated for around $45........ they obviously have basically the same product as JET HOT but with a lot more "installers" that may be local to you guys.........

David,

Thanks for your interest in our use of Techline Coatings for our Thermal
Coating applications. Interesting to me is your involvement with RX7's.
More on that later.

Jet Hot was certainly the pioneer in the use of aluminized ceramic coatings
(i.e. the chrome appearance) for automotive, motorcycle, aircraft, etc.
Some people call us asking if we can "Jet Coat" their parts. Jet Hot has
become to ceramic coatings what Xerox has become to photocopying. Jet Hot
coatings are proprietary to Jet Hot.

Techline Coatings are similar to the product you get from Jet Hot, though the
there is a bit of a difference. Both are a ceramic-based coatings, offer
essentially the same colors, have the same temperature limits, are heat
barriers, offer excellent corrosion protection, and provide excellent
chip/scratch resistance. Techline coatings in my (admittedly biased) view
are better appearing and more durable at extreme temperatures. Here is a
summary of the coatings we provide:

Polished aluminum, 1300degF with spikes to 1600degF
Satin White, 1600degF
Satin Black, 2400degF (works well in turbo applications)
Cast Iron Gray, 2400degF
Midnight Blue, 2400degF (looks like black unless you look for the hint of
blue)

Again, very similar to Jet Hot. Techline is the major supplier to
aftermarket, custom coaters such as us at ProCoat Performance Coatings, in
the United States as well as internationally. We are constantly getting
updates and test results from Europe, South America, and Australia. Techline
has been in business for many years but has never, until recently, tried to
get the name recognition such as Jet Hot has achieved. We have been Powder
Coating in Tampa for almost eight years. Our mission has always been to
offer show quality coatings, applied in the proper manner, and to back the
product with excellent service. Our loyal customers include Tampa Harley
Davidson, Thunder Bay, the Wrench, Garland Race Cars, Everitt-Morrison Motor
Cars, etc. These companies will not compromise quality and service. Our
reputation was built on that dedication to quality and word-of-mouth
advertising. We added the Techline Coatings Coatings with the intent of
applying the same philosophy, that is, superior quality and service. We have
customers from all over the Southeast, recently from as far away as Texas.
ProCoat Performance Coating is one of three coaters in Florida that have been
certified to apply Techline coatings. In addition to the exhaust coatings, we
also offer coatings for internal engine components, thermal barriers, thermal
emitters, dry film lubricants, among others.

Regarding RX7's...I have been racing in SCCA since the mid 70's and just
recently purchased a convertible RX7 to convert to road racing. I have spent
some time working with Scott at MazSport in Largo regarding coating
applications for more power, durability (apex seals!), and heat management,
and will very soon be applying some coatings to a test motor for evaluations.
I have had several conversations with the owner of Techline regarding
coatings for the rotary motors and results from around the world. There are
many benefits that can be achieved at a modest cost. I hope you can provide
me with the necessary information to participate in the RX7 forum and any
other RX7 clubs or organizations that you might know.

Hope this has been of some assistance for you. Please call me at your
convenience and we can go into more detail if you have further questions.
Our hours are 7:00 to 4:00, M - F, however I am glad to meet with you after
hours or weekends if you call ahead to make arrangements. We are located
just north of Tampa International Airport.

For the down pipe, estimate about $15 per linear foot.

Thanks again for your interest and I hope to hear from you soon.

Hope this helps some of you guys............ I always learn tons from everyone else..........

I wasn't even happy with the results from heat coating from Jet Hot.

I sent them a "polished" down pipe for their 2k coating. The result was a very rough/grainy, not smooth finish. It also chipped around the whole where I tightened the nut onto the stud. I would go with a company that is closest to you and save on shipping. Prices i've been quoted are $20-$21/ft.

The Jet Hot 2000 coating has always been a bit grainy. The chipping isn't right though...should've gotten a discount or at least a re -treating for that.

The pipe went back to Corksport because it was a bad prototype and now I use perfomance coatings in WA or Embee localy.

$50.00 (by the roll) worth of old fashioned ugly 2" generic "header wrap" and a couple of stainless steel band clamps or stainless steel safety wire produces better results than any of these insanely expensive high tech coatings for your FD3S exhaust system, and takes all of 15 minutes to install. Not to mention shipping and waiting around to get your parts back.

Just don't put wrap around the head of your DP and never, ever wrap your cat - you WANT heat to escape these areas to avoid a major "hot spots"!

These types of coatings have their place in many different applications and are truly amazing, but really, spend your hard earned money on other go fast stuff.

(Unless you're building a show car, and then, they can't be beat....)
