New FD owner! Passed Emissions!
I just bought my FD a couple of weeks ago. It's my 4th 7, 1st FD.
The car sat for about 5 years, but it ran strong when I test drove it, and the price was fair, so I took a chance.
Anyway, I just changed the plugs, put in fresh gas, changed oil and hoped for the best.
Turns out, it tested great. Here are the results:
CO% Limit = 1.10/Tested = .01
HC ppm Limit = 275/Tested = 88
NO ppm Limit = 3600/Tested = 673
Everyone was really surprised. What a great relief.
So I have a question. Can I feel some comfort about the condition of the motor and its seals based on these results, or is it not really an indicator of the strength of the motor? I haven't had a chance to do the comp test because I just bought a tester.

Regarding engine condition: I wouldn't think it too likely that a poorly running engine could pass emissions, especially one that had bad compression numbers.
Maybe someone else has some conclusive info on that.

With the stock main cat a properly running FD will have no trouble passing emissions.
A compression test is pretty easy to do with a $30 tester:

I just registered my "smog machine" in Florida as I could not pass Georgia emissions. However, it looks like I might be moving to just north of Philadelphia. Are there emissions there? If so, I'll just keep renewing my Florida registration.
There are emissions here.
Moconnor, thanks for the link. I'll do the comp test today. I guess that's really the only definitive test for the health of the motor.
