New FD owner...have a few questions.

I am new to the FD community and need a little help. I do not post that much but have been on the site reading for awhile (I actually try to use the “search” feature ). I purchased a really clean 93 R1 with a rebuilt motor. The motor has about 12,000 miles and appears to be well maintained. It’s a stock rebuild. Here is the current list of performance parts the car already has…

Performance parts:
A'pexi GT-Spec Exhaust
A'pexi Power FC w/Commander
A-Spec Tuning Midpipe
Blitz SBC-id
Efini Y-Pipe
Greddy Front Mount Intercooler
Greddy Airinx Intake
Greddy Polished Intake Elbow
Greddy Underdrive Pulley Kit
HKS SSQ BoV
KOYO Radiator
M2 AST Bypass
M2 Stainless Steel Downpipe
M2 Heavy Duty Clutch
M2 Lightweight Aluminum Flywheel
Ported Stock Wastegate
Rotary Performance Competition Fuel Pump

I want to make the car a little bit quicker but want to maintain reliability and streetability. I am thinking about changing the stock twins out for a BNR Stage 3 or a GT35R kit.

Here are my questions.
1.) A local guy with a 500HP FC told me the GT35R is too small of a turbo and that it wont make enough power. He said once it gets to the high end it will run out of umph. He is a Mazda mechanic at the local dealership…it seems like he understands rotaries. I do not want a lot of turbo lag and would be happy with 400-425HP. Will the GT35R run out? Are the BNRs are better choice for the price?
2.) The injectors on the car are stock and I know they need to be changed. What are the benefits of the 1600cc vs 1300cc injectors? I read these two posts and it seems like these guys used the 1300cc injectors…any reason why? Any brand better than another. What other fuel upgrades will I need?

3.) I am located in Milwaukee, who can do the tuning? I would like to do my own work but have no idea how to tune the car once everything is in.
4.) The car seems like it is running a little hot right now. Water temps fluxuate between 91-101 degrees C . I think its due to the Greddy FMIC. Will adding lower temp thermostat help out? Any way to make it run a bit cooler?
5.) What type of oil should I use? I have seen/heard of everything from 5w30 to 20w50.

Thanks everyone for your help! Sorry for the stupid questions but I am a noob on this board.

You will be happy with 400 HP for one week. Nice try though...

I have the GT35r turbo and i use 1600cc injectors. It has a very nice spool and seems to have plenty of power. My motor is street ported though so that adds a difference. If you have any specific questions about my setup and its power rang just PM me.

The 1300s drop into the stock rail, but they are bored out 850s by RC Engineering. There's quite a few people who have had injector failure with the 1300s, and a fair share who haven't had any problems.

The 1600s require a new fuel rail, therefore cost more. I'd go with some new 1600s, rail and FPR. You can then put the stock 850s back in the primary rail with a little bit of work and have all the fuel you will need for a long time.

Also, the Rotary Performance Competition Fuel Pump
= Nippendenso fuel pump, so that should be fine for most applications, unless you get really HP crazy.

A-Spec is my vote, and they are close to you. www.a-spectuning.com

The fans were set to come on at 99C which is the default for the PFC. If you find someone with a Data logit you can adjust them to come on at 89, 91 or whatever you want. The only time I saw over 99 was when I got back in the car after running it and letting it sit for a few minutes.

Hope that helps. And enjoy the car. I DO miss it.

Thanks Brian! I appreciate it! The car is great. I am really enjoying it. I changed the oil last Thursday. Thanks for selling me such a nice FD!

Why are the 1300 injectors so expensive then?
