New Fd, I have some Questions and Pics (8 so 56k beware)

Hey everyone. I bought this car back in July and drove it for about a week. Soon after that the transmission went out on me. I had a used one sent to me and two weeks ago had my car running. This is my first Rx7 and I love the thing to death. I don't know a whole lot about them but are planning to learn a lot. I bought this car from a impound lot. So I really dont know the history of the car at all. I was hoping some people on here could look at some of the pics and tell me what they can see. If you need to see a certain angle let me know and I would be glad to take a few more shots. All the of these pictures I took myelf.
Here is what I know about the car. It obviously has some mods to it. It has a 3 inch down pipe on it, Greddy BOV, Greddy Turbo timer, phantom boost gauge, a phantom air/fuel ratio gauge, I believe it may have a new ECU. What else would be a good way to find out what else has been done it? Car fax obviously only lists inspections and stuff.
It boosts at 12 psi. The wiring on the car is what confuses me. I found the clump of wires(see pic) in the stoarge compartment. Can anyone tell me what that was? When I bought the car the odometer did not work. Just tonight while I was driving around taking pictures the odometer came on. When I shut my car of it didnt come back on. The heater only blows hot air if the switch is set to defrost otherwise it will blow cold air. Is that a bad switch or something else? The check engine light has come on once and next time I turned the car on it didnt come back on. When I first start the car it idles around 1.5 for about 30 seconds. After that idles a little less than one. The car drives fine and seems to work great. Any help would be awsome. If you need any more information let me know.

Replace your AST, it's about ready to explode which will let your motor overheat and die... you can tell because the plastic is discolored. If you're not sure what an AST is, look for the photo under section 5: Maintenance...

Those wires look like they might have come from another car. The FCD (Fuel cut defenser) is for 2nd-Gen RX-7's, as far as I know.

Another thing: check those two wires (red & blue) for fuses. If the previous owner didn't install fuses, it's a good idea to do that in order to prevent electrical fires in case of a short circuit.

Good Luck,

+1 pls don't tell me those are neon lights...

seems to me that your care has a lot of electrical problems, which isn't a good thing.
electrical problems can lead to:
-shorting out the system causing things to break
-taking to an electrical specialist will cost a lot
-tracing the problem is a bitch and a half since wires run circles before it gets to its destination

your airpump has been removed (emissions device) but the air leads from the missing airpump to the intake manifold area isn't plugged. get a couple hose caps for them (located near the end of the intake pipes) to the right of that black coupling (engine bay pic)

can you take a detailed shot of the little black box sitting on the top of the driver side shock tower? that doesn't seem to belong there.

The previous owner did not take very good care of this car. The headlights did not go up and down, the air filters were ripped and horribly dirty. Their was no fifth or reverse. There was a lot of crap all over the car. Also if you look at the pics there is a chip in the drivers side door and the car was keyed down the drivers side. I fixed everything except for the rims and the paint. Also the passenger side door handle is broken. I am looking for a replacement. I paid 7,000 for it.

Really do a lot of searching on here and you will find lots of good info and parts cheaper than if you just start browsing the net. A good resource site that I have used several times is http://www.robrobinette.com/ Jason at rx7store.net is also a great guy and his store is very well priced. I have a hard time finding things cheaper than him. and he is great about answering most any question you have on products.

I think your in for some long nights getting the bugs out of the car . in the long run I think you can do it. stop everything and read everything you can on these cars before starting in on your projects . the forum is a great place for info.

I used to hate FD's that are in bad shape...then I bought one...and I feel like kicking the **** out of it every day...but its still too beautiful to touch it in a non-caressing manner. My drivers seat is torn to ****. my wiring harness is like decaying as we speak...the paint looks grey...has a huge chunk out where the(sideskirts) would be...and the rear tires are bald...did I mention the CD player doesnt work? Also my drivers side door handle is broken....So like I have all of these parts sitting in my garage but 0 money to get them installed/0time for me to install them..../sigh...my car is going to stay the garage queen! or until I can get time to fix it =p...

btw goodluck I ended up spending around 15k the first 8 weeks I had my car(in repairs). And its still a broke down beautiful pos...God I just love looking at it! maybe someday....

That is one nice looking car if you put a little $ into it you will be ready for show. As far as the lights go if you think they look good keep them. Its your car make it how you like it.
