New exhaust
New exhaust
I just had a custom 3" cat back installed by a performance muffler shop here where I live, cost me less than 250 dollars, used a Stainless Magnaflow w/ the straight through design. Car also has a DP (dunno whos).

Its very quiet at idle, just a deep tone (reminds me of some Supras Ive heard) and its not all that loud at WOT either, but it does have a powerful sports car sound. All in all Im very pleased with it....and its cheap
Just a heads up for anyone who doesnt want to pay 500+ for a pre-made/brand name exhaust. Ill post a sound clip soon hopefully, or whenever I can get my hands on a DV cam.

but what about hp gains? brand name exhausts for the rx7s are made for a reason, idk..

FWIW:
I have flow bench tested various exhaust pieces for the FD. The stock cat-back is very restrictive--but it is quite. It is significantly more restrictive than a good flowing cat. BONEZ seems to have the best high flow CAT design.
Exhaust restrictions are cumulative, so the most gains will come with eliminating the largest ones first.
Anyway, I would do a downpipe, cat-back, then high flow cat or resonated mid-pipe in that order, based on testing. Note that resonated pipe sections will not hurt and can actually improve flow (with a good resonator section).
Tubing size is not that critical. In fact 2.5" is adequate if there are no critical bends. 3" is reasonable with some bends, but don't exceed that or you'll narrow the powerband of the engine due to loss of gas velocity and resulting column inertia effects.
I use the PFS cat-back and an additional resonator to reduce drone with excellent results. This exhaust is not a restriction per se.
