New engine harness: extra mystery connectors

I just received a brand new engine harness that's going in with my rebuild.

It's beautiful... nice and soft and fresh. Like a college girl.

Only like many college "girls" today, it has extra parts. Specifically, there is one extra female-spade connector and an extra 8x2 plug on the ECU end of the harness. The 8x2 only has 5 pins in it. I count the same 42 connectors on the engine side for both the new and old harnesses. The old harness has part number N3A1-18-05ZD, and the new N3A1-18-05ZG.

Since all the engine side connectors are the same, I assume it will not be an issue to leave these new mystery connectors unplugged. But now I'm curious. Anybody know what these are for?

Read up on my posts on the fan recall harness. The newer engine harnesses (and the '95s) incorporated the fan recall into the engine harness.

1-wire plug is the test connector, the multi pin plug is for the fan recall black box. If you have removed it (like you should) you just leave those both unplugged. If you for some reason really want it, just plug the fan recall box into the larger black plug, the single wire plug is only plugged in to test the recall system.

When the fan relay recall was done, they installed a new short jumper cable and the relay to the engine harness. It is located inside just in front of the right firewall.
The newer engine harness has the that jumper built in to it. Thus the your old jumper cable is no longer required. That is why you see the two extra connectors.

When you ground the black female spade connector, it will bump up the fan running speed by 1. If your engine is fully hot and you leave the switch on then turn off the engine,
the cooling fans will run for 10 minutes to cool the engine down.

Many of us senior members have permanently installed a switch for it. Then we use it for extra cooling when needed such as for competition.
