New to the community
congrats on the great looking FD. welcome to the community. no one said it, and while you think we're a great community (which we are; we sometimes get out of line from time to time; but still a good group of boys and girls) i'll remind you of your search function located in the overhead compartment in the northeast corner of the screen. remember this website has been around for a while and these car's (FD's) have been around for almost 14 years, so any questions you might have, mightve already been asked. (i sometimes forget to search, it will happen; but there's always good info as you know that can be found if you look a bit. im not trying to be condescending by anymeans, im just trying to help you out.)
with that said. back on topic. again great looking car, with awesome mileage! dont worry about putting miles on it. its a great car that begs to be driven, and not neglected. if you wanted a car to look at and just sit there, you couldve gotten a 1:18 model. you seem to have a great grasp of what you need to be doing with it, as far as reliability mods go; especially since you are changing the ast, radiator and vacuum lines. if you are interested in doing your lines yourself, the website below (rx7.org/robinnete/) has a diagram of all the lines, plus step by step for how to do it, including removing the upper intake manifold. once you look into performance mods, do some research because there are certain 'guidelines' of how to properly (guidelines and 'what's proper' vary from owner to owner; but a general consensus nonetheless) build a FD, such as proper fuel set up, computer, intercooler set up, etc for what you are looking to do with it.

autocrossing and roadracing is a lot of fun. beats on your car a little bit, but is a great learning experience. with a mildly modded RX-7, you can easily find a class to be competitive in.

It's just over 2 hours to SLO. Let me know if you are planning to visit. I would like to see your car. I may even know your grandfather
Some of us go to Marina a couple of times a year to autocross. That would be an easy trip for you. Keep an eye on the west section for dates.

Once you get up in the 40,000 mile range the car will still be good, but it won't seem quite so special and virgin.
You seem to have struck the right balance, or at least doing what I would do. Drive it (letting it sit is not good for it) but at the same time keeping the mileage in check. 3,000 miles a year or so won't make too much difference and will still keep it among the select few. And who knows? 2-3 years from now your situation may change, another car may come along, etc. ...... it's a typical pattern.
But I certainly understand the temptation to drive the hell out it.

Crazy--you're from Salinas. There seem to be a lot of local/semi-local FD owners/fans in the area. I had no idea. When I'm home I'm in Salinas like every other day. If you know any other locals we should have a meet at like In and Out next time I'm around.

Congrats and welcome to the club! Like everyone else has said that is one beautiful car. ( I am kinda partial to tha silver myself : ) ) It is a car that definately likes to be driven. Take car of it and really drive the car. It sounds like you have done a lot of research which is great but everytime I get on here I always learn something new. It really is a great group of guys, although there are also some that have NO IDEA what the hell they are talking about and give bad advice as well. You will learn those that know what they are talking about. Again, congrats on the great car.

Thanks again everyone. I owned an RSX-S before this car--and the guys at ClubRSX.com are such edgy jerks--it's so refreshing to be welcomed and not yelled at for making an "I'm new" post, haha.
