BC New Clutch

So I tried searching and really didn't come up with anything so I turn to you guys! Its clutch time for the rex and I don't really know what way to go. I want to do it right so I was thinking Exedy Twin disk, but seeing how I only have 310 rwhp i know thats over kill but I AM planing on going single in the future so it may be worth it. Now my next option I was thinking of going with was a ACT Extreme clutch. I want something that is going to handle the abuse Im going to throw at it. I have this problem with my leg it sometimes twitches really hard during shifts causing a sudden side ways motion in the car Its apparent my current clutch didn't like that very much. Im looking for personally experiences and opinions here guys

Thanks,
Pryce.

You don't need the Act extreme, the Heavy Duty street clutch will do fine. Also upgrade to a lighten fly wheel while you're at it.

You searched.... really?

I can't recommend a clutch to you simply because you have not given all the facts. "Going single" doesn't give much to go on. That can mean 380whp or 500whp. There is a big variation of what you would need.

Is the car primarily street driven?
Track days?
1/4 Mile runs?
Single turbo power goals?

He doesn't? How do you know? With plans to go single, the 405ft/lb capacity of the SS disc and HD plate can quickly be overtaken. Unless you meant running a 6 puck with the HD pressure plate... but you didn't clarify. Blindly recommending things like "get a light flywheel too" without explanation is garbage. I personally prefer the stock flywheel for street cars. Some love lightweight flywheels. What kind of driving does the OP do?......

Sorry my bad should have given a better explanation. The car will be primarily street driven and used for a few week end track days a year and 1/4mile runs. Like I said I want something that can handle the abuse of the every now and again clutch drop, 5k starts, that sort of thing. My power goals are 450whp. I like the Idea of being able to re build the twin plate when it needs it.
please keep the flaming to a minimum I'm sensitive hahaha.

Not flaming, just want to be clear that the information is out there.... with a little heat . But seriously, this topic is well covered. Learn to search effectively.

Clutches are rated for torque capacity. A 450whp rotary will make around 350-360ftlbs. There are many many brands out there that will do the trick, but I will give you some options. These recomendations are on the stronger side since you said you will be tracking the car. 5k RPM drops are relatively abusive and as such, you will want to over build.

1. ACT Street Strip disc with Extreme pressure plate - rating 451ft/lbs. - APart from spending the big money on a twin disc, this is probably going to give you the most streetable feel for the price. The extreme PP has some weight to it but it is far from unbarable. Overall, a great street combo. In fact, there are many people making 500whp that run these clutches.

2. ACT 6 puck sprung with Heavy Duty pressure plate - rating 514ft/lbs - Very strong setup and common for people putting down good power. The 6 puck will be a little harder to drive on the street. The instant grab of the disc doesn't allow for much slipping. Many people drive it on the street with no problems, just know that there is a learning curve. This clutch will hands down handle anything you throw at it with your goal power level.

3. Spec stage 3 & 3+ - rating 530-590ftlbs. - The stage 3 is a 6 puck disc. It does have the grabby characteristics of such. However, most people report like stock pedal feel from the pressure plate. The stage3+ is a full face metalic disc that has an even higher torque rating with a claimed better driveability. It is a full face disc. I have not personally used Spec clutches. There was a fair amount of negative feedback when I searched. There was positive too, but it seemed to be less. Just search if you are considering it.

4. Twin disc - There are still lots of options here too. HKS, Exedy, OS Giken.... Ultimately, for the best power, and street driveability application, multi-disc clutches accel in every way. But you do pay for it.

Again, there are way more combinations of discs, pressure plates, and brands. You need to search, weigh the community and make an informed decision. I use Rx7store's links because they covor the more popular combinations with a decent explanation.. There are more here...

I would make lots of flywheel recommendations, but again, it has been covered to say the least.... just search.

Thanks for the response XLR8. What exactly are you searching?? I have been using key words like clutch kit, twin disc, should I be more specific? I like the Idea of not spending 2 grand on a exedy twin disc but it sounds like there is a lot more to gain from it besides a bullet proof clutch. I was reading last night that with the carbon series being so light and the rotating mass on the fly wheel is much less there for increasing throttle response and hp and also quicker shifts as an added bonus. any impute on these? to tell you the trough I was looking at http://www.rx7store.net/product_p/zx3-xtss.htm but after reading you reply I think the ACT 6puck sprung with the heavy-duty pp is more in the cards.
