New ClubRX writeup - Midpipe installation, and exhaust fun

Check it out -

http://www.clubrx.org/default.asp?id...ntent=60&mnu=5

Got a cheap midpipe from Ebay and did a how-to on installation. Took LOTS of measurements of pipe diameter and fastener and gasket sizes, and I thought it was all quite interesting. Let me know what you guys think.

Enjoy,
Dale

Gotta add a bit to the writeup. Seems the Ebay midpipe doesn't fit as well as I would have hoped - I believe the catback is banging the subframe a bit when there's exhaust movement. I'm going to play with the tolerances a bit tomorrow to see if I can remedy that.

It also didn't pass the wife test . Bit too loud for her. I do plan on installing a high-flow cat into the midpipe at some point, which should help noise and stink (it is quite stinky, too).

The sound at full throttle is GLORIOUS, however. Just bloody amazing.

Thanks for the feedback!

If you're gonna use a metal substrate cat, I recommend the Random Technologies. It seems like its been holding up better than my friend's who used the Dynatech. Note that it doesn't quiet the noise down much so you might want to consider adding a resonator in the midpipe too. Maxcooper has some pics of what he did. I think its in the single turbo section. I think newberg(sp?) also did something similar and had some pics.

good write-up, I have been running an Ebay mid-pipe for a while now and I love it. Yes, it is a little loud and smelly, but I don't really care about that. I can see how it would get annoying on a daily-driven FD.

Mine fit perfectly and sourcing new gaskets was not hard at all. I just went down to the local NAPA and spent a few minutes browsing through their book of exhaust gaskets until I found a perfect match. The book has life-size pictures of all the gaskets so finding a match is easy. Just ask one of the people at the counter and they'll hand you the catalog.
