New Carpet weight, Peel & seal weight & a link to all my pics,

I bit the bullet & got a new mazda carpet for my FD. It came today, HMMMM....

To all those who were interested in the group buy: This is not the same carpet that came in my 93 originally. The actual carpet is not as densely woven, nor is it as thick. The heavy rubber backing it about 1/3 as thick and only covers the floor where your feet sit. Instead of foam to fill in the spaces they use the same felt as everywhere else in the car, just multible layers. Now for the kicker, it weighs half as much. Old carpet comes in at 32lbs, new 16lbs. One day we will get the carpet shortage resolved, I just didn't have the time to wait. On the plus side, now that we know the "New Mazda Factory Carpet" isn't all that, we may convince someone to reproduce it.

Now for the "Peel & Seal". Dredged up an old thread the other day about the different types of products usable in place of "Dynomat". I found the "Peel & Seal" at "Lowes". $13.49 for 6"X25' and weighing in at 3.3lbs per roll. I'm on my 3rd roll, figure on 7 rolls. The "Dynomat" seems to be rubber based & the "Peel & Seal" asphalt based. Interesting point is the factory sound deadener seems to be asphalt based its self. Anybody know for sure?

Interesting about the carpet! How much did it run you? Who did you get it from? (Ray, local dealer, what?)

Just to be absolutely sure you know this before you put all seven rolls in...your car will stink like asphalt whenever it gets hot from the peal and seal. I used Dynamat original (asphalt based) 8 years ago in my 4Runner because it was cheap and so was I, and even today on hot days it smells like an ashtray...I'm the only owner and I don't smoke. Just be aware!

You had to go and burst my bubble . I figured there would be an asphault smell, BUT! I may have a cure for that also. Can't reveal all my secrets just yet. Lets just say it should not sink if I ever drive it off a bridge If it works I'll let everyone know, if it doesn't I won't. Of course I'd rather have the asphault smell then those nasty xmas tree, hangy from your mirror stinky crap. Sorry in advance to all who enjoy their smell.

I really don't know if the price is to be given out, But Ray is the BOMB! Yes it was still expensive. Interestingly there were only 2 carpets in the county, now there is only 1.

The red swatches were from the Carpet group buy that was in progress. Was trying to find the closest match for our red.

Of course the price can be given out.....he just gave you the rx7club discount. It applies to everyone on this forum, so why the secrecy ?

Yah, with the new leather seat covers, it should be clean on the inside and smell better
