I wouldn't go 275 on a 8.5" wheel. That is pretty wide, I've seen a 275 on a 9" wheel, looked like it was as wide as you want to go....

The car looks mint!! Love the factory parts...

Out of curiousity, how much do the wheels weigh with rubber???

I've been contemplating going 17" for a long time... I still can't believe the stock rims weigh so little.....

yeah... from what ive read on tire sizing recomendations (from the various tire manufacturers)... the stock 99 mazda sizing is already at the upper bound of the sizes that are recomended. especially regarding tires... i wouldnt disregard the manufacturers recomendations, especially in the FD with its potential for high top end speed.

i also have a set of these rims, and i like them very much (although they are still waiting in my basement for tires and a finished car to be mounted to ). i got them 2 years ago from jt-imports used (but in really good shape) for $900 shipped. they look really subtle, yet more agressive/ less dated than the 93+ wheels. you wont be turning any heads with these wheels, but they are a nice touch... and personally i prefer subtle to extravogant.

one thing did cross my mind though the other day... how about buying another 2 8.5" wheels for the front... so i could run 255 all around. would i see any sort of gains keeping the fronts and rears matched??? too bad they dont make a deeper dished version of the rears... say a 9.5". then i would be set as id like to be running 285's in the rear for my extra rotor . -heath

I agree with Jeff. I spent a lot of time deciding what tire and width to go with and finally decided the Mazda engineers are much better qualified to make that decision than I am , once I did that it was just a matter of deciding which brand to buy. As stated earlier in this thread, I went with the Yokohama EVS ES100's.

Good luck.

Thanks. I used VHT Red paint specifically for calipers. It's a spray can and I bought 3 cans. It took 6 light coats for complete coverage. The white on the calipers is actually the natural metal polished (although in the pics it does look white).

Thanks again.

I have a question. Is it possible to use the "toilet" emblem cap from the old 16in rims, instead of the efini emblem,or the caps are smaller?

Wow. Sometimes, the 99 spec rims do not impress me but your car looks stunning. Great Job!

The efini center caps (emblems) are the same size as the "stock" 16" center caps. My efini center caps fit both my 16" and 17" rims.

Thumbs up

Nice rims. Those are exactly like mine that I bought two weeks ago from ZRoc. I'll have to post a picture of them on my car. 93 VR with 5 spoke 99 spec. Its a subtle but very classy change.
