Need some help on a short shifter problem.

I have a Mazdatrix short shifter installed on my car. The problem I am having with the shifter is it turns/spins in both directions by about 20%. I am unsure what is worn out or broken. Any info would be helpfull thanks in advance.

Not to hijack, but my stock shifter does this too!

Sounds like whatever it is we both have the same problem.

Can't speak for OP, but in my case this is not the case. I have an aftermarket shiftknob securely bolted on there. The actual "lever" or whatever literally spins left and right.

Remove & inspect the shifter & bushings. If the bushings are worn, replace.

Yes my shifter **** is also very secure on there. Now when you say bushing are you talking about these bushing http://www.rx7.com/store/rx7/fdshiftrepair.html and if so would it be the T style bushing?

Check both bushings. RX7.com sells the nylon versions; Mazdatrix has an aluminum one as well:
