Well, I've finally rebuilt my engine and I put all the hoses and parts on the block before putting it in. I also mated the transmission to the engine before putting it in the engine bay however I had problems aligning up the driveshaft to the transmission.

My question is what is the best way of mating the driveshaft to the transmission with only myself doing it. I was thinking of removing the driveshaft that is attached to the differential and then putting the front part of the driveshaft into the transmission. Then I was thinking I could mate the read end to the differential. My only problem is the rear bolts are on TIGHT and the driveshaft keeps moving. I tried to use a large screwdriver to give me leverage but even that's not helping.

Any suggestions?

Unbolting the driveshaft from the rear diff is probably the only way you're going to do it by yourself. I stuck an 18" long screwdriver between the knuckles of the u-joint in the driveshaft in order to get enough leverage to get those bolts off. Mark the diff and driveshaft so that you bolt it back on in the same position it was taken off.

 

If you had the tranny out, you most likely have the powerplant frame out of the car as well, and the diff is drooping. There's no way you're going to get the driveshaft re-stabbed in the tranny with it still bolted to the diff.

Unbolt it from the diff, stab it in the tranny, and bolt it up to the diff. Won't take but 5 minutes or so - it's easier than you'd think . Also, have the back of the car in the air and the parking brake off - to get to the other bolts on the diff-driveshaft flange, rotate the tire which will rotate the diff so you can get to the bolts.
