Need some advice and help

Right now I can get a pretty good deal on a single turbo kit. What would be the problems with me buying the kit and installing it, and only run like 7-10 lbs.? I know I have an automatic tranny, but that much power can't hurt it that bad would it? I will do the swap sometime later, but as of now since I can get a good deal on the kit what would be the problems with doing that? Would I need to even need to upgrade the fuel system much at only say 7 lbs.? I have a fuel pump. Just give me some ideas and advice on what you think, I know some people aren't going to think it is a smart idea but right now I am thinking why not?

I guess it depends on how good the deal is and how badly you want this particular kit. What kit is it?

I don't know anything about auto trannies but if you get a soft enough spring on the wastegate to run 6-7psi, you'd be fine with stock fuel system as long as you still get it tuned.

Pretty damn good deal. Here is the probem I would think, it is a T-78. So I am guessing this kit will probably suck at 7 lbs. with slow spool and not much boost. But it would be on an auto so it should be faster than my stock twins anyway correct? And with the deal I am getting I prbably won't be getting this good of a deal again. Oh, and ho wmany people have singled the auto tranny? Sounds like a good experiment

It won't be any faster than twins on the stock fuel system....in fact, it will be slower. I can't imagine how bad the lag would be on a 4-speed auto....

Well, I might upgrade it just to see what it would do on the auto. The real question is why should I not get this kit and install it? I expect it be be slow and spool time to suck *****, but hell if I can get it cheap and noone has done anything like this it wouldn't hurt to experiment would it? So does anyone actually have a reason that this wouldn't be ok to experiment with?

So, you know it's not going to be faster than the twins, it will be a lot less fun on the street -- poor spool, and will cost a significant chunk of change to buy AND INSTALL.

So, pretty much all cons, no pros. Gee, sounds good, where do I sign up?

You'll need a programmable computer to tune the car. 7 PSI of a single turbo doesn't necessarily flow the same CFM as 7 PSI of the stock twins. If you don't have or aren't planning to get a programmable ECU yet, there is your reason not to install it.

Are you forgetting its only TEMPORARY? My opinion, if your getting such a great deal on it, buy it but don't install it until you got everything needed.

By the looks on his sig, he has a PFC. Damn, I didn't realize it was a T-78 turbo. It will deffinetly won't be as fun as the stock twins if you're still sequential, specially at 7 psi.

Power FC. I am looking to get this for more later on, but I do not want to have to do a lot as of now, like the auto to 5 speed swap. But I think it would be fun to test the auto tranny. I don't think anyone has ever done this that I have read. I might be able to run more than 7 PSI, I will do some fuel upgrades later, 7 PSI for now, then 10, then 12., then it is up to the auto to keep up, which I doubt will happen for long, but why not see what it can do ya know?

Where are all the cons? Cheap turbo kit, great condition, T-78 RX-7, able to be a fast car, will be running more boost in the future.

Cons are that it is an auto, will spool slow at 7 PSI.

So what was your reason it would be so bad? I might can go straight to 10 PSI, not sure that I will have to run 7.

As long as you TUNE the PFC, then it will be fine. However, running the base map with the single turbo is NOT a good idea.

As far as the auto + single turbo, sorry, you won't be the first to run a single turbo with an auto. It has been done. Most people just opt for the tranny swap these days.

What's the point? It sounds like a lot of friggin' work for NO benefit. If it's such a good deal, buy the T-78 and shove it in the closet until you have a PFC.

If you are sure that you are getting a great deal on the t78, buy it. dont install it till you do a transmission swap. You could always sell it down the road for more $$if you change your mind.
