need some advice, car wont start stumbling idle
I was driving my car home and was boosting fairly easily on the last stretch to my house. When I pulled up in my driveway, my car was stumbling and the idle was jumpy. I popped the hood and notcied that the engine was vibrating violently and the car was sputtering. I barely made it into the garage when my car died. My car won't start now, it sounds as if its about to turn over, but it just dies. After a few tries I was able to get the car started and it idled at about 1500 then slowly decreased to about 600 then jumped up and down between 400 and 600 stumbling to stay alive. My vaccum pressure is reading 12 with the jumpy idle when it used to read 15/16 when the car was healthy. I also hear a clanking noise coming from the engine bay. I hope this isn't what I think it is. If anyone has had these symptoms or can help diagnos my problem please let me know. thanks in advance.

do a comp check, it will tell you if you have low compression or a leaky vacuum or a dirty fuel filter, i also heard that a bad ground in specific places can cause spiratic idle... dunno for sure, i regrounded allot of things immediately when i bought my FD...?

would a vacuum line cause the car not to start? I just tried starting my car and it started up fine. My vacuum read normal at about 15/16 but it smelled like I was smoging a lot more than normal. I let my car idle for about a minute with the garage door open, but the fumes were so bad that I had to shut it off. I was literaly gagging and my eyes were tearing. I have a dp,mp, and cb so I expect it to smog, but this was more excessive than normal. Is this an indicator of anything, or is this just a coincidence? my mods are intake, dp,mp,cb, pfc. thanks for the replies.

I'm still wondering if a vacuum problem could be the culprit. I'm not to familiar with the vacuum hoses and what sensors could cause my symptoms. If anyone could add to the previous explanations I would gladly appreciate it. thanks.

It sounds like you might of popped off one of your vacuum lines. But honestly I would start working some overtime because you just blew you apex seal. Don't worry it happens to everyone.

Check your hose that goes to a little square box located on the driver side firewall right behind the intake elbow. it is known to pop off . If it is off put a tie wrap on it good luck

i checked the boost sensor and all the hoses that can be accesed without removing the uim. I started the car again and it turned over fine. What could have caused the hesitation and stumbling idle? and how come my car no longer has any problematic symptoms?
