Need some advice...

Greetings,

I'm purchasing an Rx7 in a couple weeks. I just had the car inspected and the mechanic, Edgar from Rotary World, Miami, said that the intercooler hoses are loose and may need to be replaced. He recommended that I change them out with silicone and heavier clamps. I'd like to verify this solution with the group.

Also, he noticed condensation in one of the rear taillights. He didn't have a chance to look at it; however, the lens isn't cracked so he believes it might be due to a broken seal. What are your thoughts/experiences?

Thanks in advance for your time and any help you can provide.

Cheers,

Steve Hahn

which intercooler hoses? you can replace the intercooler to the throttle body with a greddy polished aluminum one. if it is the turbos to the intercooler, then you can get an efini y-pipe.

and while you're at it, you might as well upgrade the intercooler... the stock one is not too good.

and while you're in there... add a downpipe, helps keep engine temps low.... but then you might run lean with the down pipe... so you're gonna have to get an upgraded ecu... and a boost controller to prevent boost spikes. then with the upgraded boost, you're gonna have some vacuum hoses pop off. then you'll take off the extension manifold and look at the mess of vacuum hoses under there and decide to go single turbo... of course you'll need upgraded fuel pump and injectors with a single turbo.

oh yeah... you'll need upgraded suspension to handle all that extra hp now

Condensation in one of the taillights?

To me that doesn't sound like a serious problem, but I would make sure to give the car a COMPLETE check before putting any money on it.

As far as hoses. Unless the car has already had hoses replaced, be prepared to replace a few of them. That's pretty common and usually the first thing most people do when they purchased a used FD. The hot under-hood temperatures wear out the stock hoses.

Zelig,

Are you sure he said intercooler hoseS? not vacuum hoses or lines? Anyways, the 2 things you mention don't seem serious at all. I have the same problem with my tail-lights, I'm not sure if its a very prevalent problem, but you may want to upgrade those tail-lights to the 99 spec ones anyways.

Lenny,

I guess that's the path that we all take -- I'm up to the part where I don't want to have to deal with all the little annoying things, and am considering going single... hmmm - funny nonetheless.. too true.

Thanks for the tips guys...

Mahjik,

I had the car inspected throughly... He even checked for the airbags to make sure they were really there. The engine compression checked out at 8.7 in both chambers. Factory spec is 8.5.

NYCrx7,

99 specs, huh? Yeah, those are sweet... do you replace the lenses as well when upgrading to the 99 spec? Also, how involved is the installation of the 99 spec taillights? I'd also like to upgrade the front spoiler to the 99 spec, but my car is Montego Blue so I'm guessing paint is expensive. How involved is the front spoiler installation?

Thanks and Regards,

Zelig
