Exclamation 2 Strange sounds what are they??!!

Newbie still getting used to driving his 92 FD and having alot of fun stunning car!

My first question is when I turned off the engine today I noticed a loud bubbling sound coming from the right coolant cap sounded quite strange never happened before is it just trapped air or somthing worse? The car is running at a normal opperating temp not overheating atall.

Second question, this happens all the time when I turn the engine off, its the sound of ball bearings banging or rubbing together in the upper turbo or maybe even bubbling again, I dont know! Is this common with all FD's, its not loud, you have to put your head under the hood to notice it.

Ive run a search on both these subjects but to no avail, if anyone can point me in the right diretion it would be great!!

Cheers Mark London UK

Blurp your cooling system, air in the cooling system is a common problem. Think about getting some gauges, boost, and water temp are paramount. MAZDA had the great idea of selling a turbo car without a boost gauge....nice The water temp gauge is a glorified idiot light . I like to call it my "add engine" light , when it goes off its too late just add a new motor

Also can you tell us what modifications where made to the car ?
How many miles are on the core ?
Are you leaking or having to replace coolant ?

I have no idea what that sound is, open your hood and have some else shut off the engine. Perhaps you will be able to identify where the sound is coming from. My best guess , air pump but that’s a reach

The air pump has been removed along with the cat, its got a boost guage which im not taking above 10 psi (suffer from boost creep due to no cat). Im still waiting on an apexi power fc to sort out the boost problem.
I thought it might be air in the coolant system no probs will sort that out.

The other sound is so strange though it really does sound like its the upper turbo sounds like somthing is cooking down there!! Just dont want to drive if im doing damage, I take it easy anyways with the boost creep problem.

The engine has just been rebuilt 2500 miles / 18 mths ago, This morning the coolant in the left filler cap was a little low but only by 1 cm or so there are no visible leaks externally atall.

hello..this is off subject but believe it or not when i first got my fd in 2004, this is the first forum i came across. I then found 2 other forums in the uk which is where i live. I just thought it might be helpful for you being closer to home..you never know..A fellow member around the london area might be able to have a free look at it for you as a lot of them seem to come from around london.

The first and biggest uk forum is www.mazdarotaryclub.com This site caters for all rotary engine cars and is voted as the best rotary top 150 websites!!

The second is www.fduk.org this site caters for the fd3s 1992 on Rx-7 only hence the word fduk
