Need ideas here....

Well my air pump seized up. So thus something needs to be done.

What I decided to do is unplug the air-pump connections and let it free wheel. In doing so, it more or less requires me to remove the cat. (or so I think so, correct me if I’m wrong about this)

In removing the cat I will now have an Intake, mid-pipe and a down-pipe. Arguably pushing the limits of the stock fuel system due to boost spikes and such. I would rather err on the side of safety.

Well, now here’s the problem, what to do about all this? I’m am very short on money and I need the least expensive way to attempt to compensate. I’m Moving to Texas (shudder) in 2 days. The 16th. All my money is going into moving right now.

Would 'pills' help this out, if so, what size where do I get them and where do I put them? Should I get a boost controller (~$400-$500), only thing against this would be I want to get the Power FC with commander when I actually get the money for it. Would getting the boost controller be a waste of money once I get the Power FC or can they work together with better results?

Or is there another avenue that I have over looked. Looking for insight, ideas and such. I know just driving around staying off the gas is a way...but common...is that going to happen?

Next problem will be, I have no egr, aws, avc, dt, pre-cat and now I wont have a cat soon enough. And where I didn’t have to worry about emissions testing in Florida, I will have to in Texas. I will start another thread about this later as to ideas about that can-o-worms.

Thanks in advance.
Jeff

IMO: keep your Cat on and keep airpump unpluged.
If you can take off your CAT and gut it out..

Running fulll exhaust without a ECU upgrade.
you are asking for trouble. especially without
an intercooler..

I am a big fan of a Midpipe, and believe its one of
the top performance mods you can do.. BUT, isnt
worth blowing up a motor.. and if you think a
ECU upgrade is expensive. Motor and Labor is like
5x's the amount..

IF i was you. at least guy a used reprogrammed ecu
like M2, Pettite, Gforce, PFS PMS.. You can get them
inexpensive these days.. " don't like say to say cheap"
anything over couple hundred " isn't cheap"..

until u get the PFC...i would not go with the MP just yet...go with the option of replacing it with a used A/P until funds allow for the MP/PFC...
FYI I currently run a MP with PFC and I still get 1-1.5 psi of spike....with stock ic @ 10psi

Ok...well this didnt help me much.

However this does bring up another question. Would it be safer to run the Mid-pipe with my M2 Med SMIC installed? From what Im getting from thoes 2 posts an aftermarket IC would be better? Help lower spike or something? I know a larger IC does "lower" boost to a certin extent, but would this help if it comes down to it?

Looking for more info plz.

Just realized posted under my brothers name, useing his computer till mine arrives here in Texas and too late to change it now. This is Mindphrame.

couldn't you just go back to stock except for the cat and disconnected air pump? that would put the restriction back into the intake and exhaust so you wouldn't have to worry about running lean.

Maybe i'm wrong, i'm just trying to offer another way to solve your problem.

good luck.

This was a little strange to me at first, until someone explained it to me, and now, from what I understand, an IC will make your intake air more dense (colder = more dense), which will add to a leaner mix.

My suggestion would be to wait on the IC, remove your airpump, and get a midpipe or gut your cat as soon as you get the PFC. Your cat will last a while without an airpump, but you can't expect it to last too long.

If money is a real issue I would try just picking up a used airpump?
