ok i just got my engine and tranny back in my car wired it all up bolted everything on and everything is set. ... wrong i need to bleed the clutch so i do, well the thing wont go down so i check it out, the throw out bearing is not in the clutch, so i kinda push it in there it slides in but dosent lock in, my question is how do i make it lock in so it will pull the presure plate? cuz its not. if anyone knows how to get it in there please let me know.

throught the inspection hole, check to see if the on the presure plate is flush with the presure plate then use a screw driver and make the fork go into the ring, it should go in and lock after this.

3rdgensleeper,

As Daniel mentioned, open the lower inspection hole. However, look at the pressure plate and make sure you have the wedge collar installed and locked "INTO" the pressure plate. If the wedge collar is not locked into the pressure plate, you'll have to drop the tranny to press it in.

The wedge collar is what holds the throw-out bearing into the pressure plate/clutch assembly.

Check this video in the following thread and you'll see how it works:

The above is wrong!

Through the inspection plate you can disengage and engage the throw out bearing into the clucth pressure plate without removing the trans.

Chuck,

I'm referring to locking the wedge collar into the pressure plate, not the throw-out bearing into the wedge collar (if you read the post).

Mahjik, The locking collar is in the presure plate and is locked into that, however my throw out bearing with slide into the presure plate but i cant seem to lock it in, i push/pry it as far as i can and theres still a 1/4 inch gap between the shoulder of the throw out bearing and the locking collar.

thanks for all the help guys

Try removing the slave cylinder, then push/pry the throw-out bearing into the wedge collar (as you shouldn't really have much pressure on it). Once you get it locked, then re-attach the slave cylinder and re-bleed the clutch.

OK I see what you mean, but that part is not normally removeable from the pressure plate, or do you need to remove it. All PP I have seen/used , it is always in place and you do not do anything with it. What PP is different?

I have seen the wedge collar pop out during the mating of the transmission before (and it happened to me once and has happened to others here on the forum).

I'm not sure about what you mean that it's not normally removable from the PP. It's a separate Mazda part and I didn't think any clutch kits came with them (at least my ACT didn't).

However, if it's in place, then yes you shouldn't need to do anything with it (as long as it's not damaged).
