Need help quick!

OK I finally found a smog station that was able to get an RPM read out from my FD.

Anyway, my tuning at idle worked like a charm, I pass with flying colors at idle.

However, at 2500 RPMs my car failed, I was just a little bit too high on the COs

It seems like the car is back firing, as you hold the RPMs at 2500 or anywhere around that number the exhaust pops.

I have the air pump hooked up to the cat, the car was hotter than hell, and I pulled some fuel out of it at that RPM range and it is still popping like it would if there were no cat. I even put the PIM % to 50% at the 2000 and 3000 RPM range, and it still was popping. I then added more fuel to see if it was a lean pop, and that didn't do anything for me either. Does anyone else get a pop / backfire in this RPM range that DOES run a cat and air pump?

I'm so close to passing, any help I can get I would really appreciate. I just want to get this over with and register the car so I can have some real fun with it.

Thanks

Come on guys, someone has to have had a problem before with a 2k RPM backfire. I guess I'll just go to the Power FC Forum

There has to be a way to tune it out in that range..... it's killing my smog even with a brand new cat and working air pump.

lol why would I do that when I'm this close to getting it to pass legit. If I can figure this out, every year I won't have to stress about finding someone to give $100 to, to pass

I'm sure there is a way I can make this work, just don't know what to edit or change mechanically to help with the backfires in that range.

There is something mechanically wrong with your car if you can't pass with your setup. Do you have new plugs and wires? How old are you fuel injectors?

EVERYTHING is brand new.

New plugs, wires, fuel filter, injectors were cleaned a month ago, and a powerFC with a large street port.

i don't know man, unless you plan on keeping your car internally the same, i guess that's the way to go. i would never pass with my extreme v-mount anyway. and by the way, its every two years.

Check to see if the smog pump is actually working. I had a short in the wiring and it would work off and on at times. Quick check to see it the pump is to pull the hose off and feel. Also make sure the clutch for the pump is working.

Yea the smog pump is working, the clutch is engaged and when the engine turns the pump it shoots out a ton of air. I disconnected the tube just to be sure and started the car, it is pulling air from the front and shooting a ton out of the back.
